Since it's normal and you tell us you know what you are telling everyone, I thought you could provide a link with info. If not that, can you at least give a reference to a book. The old fashioned smart way. I want to know who else you claim says this is normal.

Not Just Your Opinion. I want fact not some feel good Lie.

A link? Seriously? You can't trust a guy who explains the geometry of it and will show you pictures and videos from his own observatory, but you WOULD trust a random web page somewhere?

Frack this kind of stupidity. You don't need to look it up online. You don't need to surf the web. You don't need to ask for links. You don't have to ask who wrote what and what their connections are to the Powers That Be and if they are Telling the Truth.

JUST GO FRICKING OUTSIDE AND WATCH THE MOON FOR A FEW HOURS!

Or, if your brain is functional, get a scrap of paper and a pencil and you can scribble out how the thing works yourself. It ain't hard.

Not the best example, but not the worst, either. The science isn't hard, and there are experiments you can do yourself. Or you can -- as it appears YOU have -- trust a professional opinion-maker.

Ok, rotation, wet/dry, its all facinating.. but can somebody please explain why the sun and the moon are rising and setting in the WRONG places...

Im on the east coast of Australia and they are both rising and setting wrong.. the arc in the sky is wrong as well.. even the Pleadian cluster is too high in the sky for this time of year.. and yes ive been watching it for years.. the sun is setting southwest, not west and rising north east not due east.. its summer here so it should be east and a high arc right over head.. its not its all messed up... and short of me videoing the entire day for you which im sure 14 odd hours of the sun would be so facinating, i can only tell you to go outside and measure it if you dont believe me...

Explain this- If ur rotation logic is true did this TILT ever occur in the past and how come there is NO record of this tilt and where its so NOTICEABLE to MANY people.

Look up "Hilal Moon."

There are hundreds of thousands (maybe more) Muslims all over the world carefully tracking the movement of the Moon for religious purposes.

What kind of conspiracy would it take to keep them all silent?

The mentality of some posters being so hostile to actual facts and learning is what disappoints me. They see something that they've never noticed before and instantly jump to the conclusion that since THEY'VE never seen it, it just MUST be something new and here come the evil scientists to tell us that it's normal, when they somehow "know" it's not.

One poster even said that he just "knew" that the moon was wrong (even though he couldn't say why) and no one could tell him any differently. I sure hope that poster doesn't have any kids to be runined by such an ignorant mindset.

Weelll, the full moon came up right on schedule this evening, and from the right direction yet.

So if the lunar eclipse coming up in a few hours also goes off as predicted to the minute without a hitch, will that prove anything to the "moon and sun are in the wrong place" crowd?

I doubt it. The doublethink is too strong in those ones. It's hilarious, though, that some of the people who are getting weirded out by the eclipse (which is happening exactly as predicted - of course) are simultaneously claiming that the moon and planets are all out of place. All you can do is enjoy the comedy.

Pretty much a description of the majority of hoax believers and a great many conspiracy nuts as well. They are so shocked and surprised by something they've just learned they find it completely impossible to imagine that other people have known about it for a long time.

You see it in the Creationists; "Evolution violates the Second Law of Thermodynamics!" Err, right. Somehow slipped by millions of scientists over a century of work that one of the keystone physical laws was being violated. Moon hoaxers; "There's aluminum foil on the outside of the spacecraft!" D'uh. Look at any commercial satellite (it's high-tech mylar film, not Reynolds Wrap, but anyhow.)

And so on and so forth.

That's why you often end up in a tiny spiral with them:

"Yes, we've known about field rotation since, oh, the dawn of astronomy."

"But I never heard of it before!"

"Believe us, it's old hat, we know all about it already."

"But can't you see it is spinning? How can it spin! It isn't supposed to spin!"

"Yes, it is."

"No, I mean SPINNING. Can't you see that it is SPINNING? I can see it, why can't you?"

"Yes; we see it. But we know why we see it."

"BUT ITS SPINNING!"

It's called field rotation, and yes, it's normal and expected. This is why you have to polar mount a telescope to do long exposure photography; viewing objects in an altitude-azimuth way shows field rotation. You can see this in constellations too; Orion looks like he's resting on his right side (our left) as he rises and he looks like he's resting on his left side (our right) as he sets.

Can you give a link where this information can be found?

No, I want to know where Astronut got his info.

15 years of experience in astronomy and 10 years of experience doing astrophotography. I'm planning on doing a video comparison time lapse of the moon with a polar mounted telescope and with an altitude-azimuth telescope. What you'll see is that the altitude-azimuth mounted telescope shows rotation while the polar mounted one does not. I was going to do that a couple weeks ago but ended up not having the time.

A closed mind is exactly that, and some of the "minds" on GLP seem to be hermetically sealed.

I am amazed at the patience shown by some "knowledgeable" users like ASTRONUT. Their efforts to bring science and logic to the discussion are usally met with accusations of being "part of the cover-up", a shill. There is no dealing with folk who have a locked mind-set. No amount of factual details will change their mis-guided views.

Far from being "disappointed", I find it entertaining to read what some people actually believe, and how they have come to their conclusions..."Saw it on U-Tube", "Read it in a blog".

If anything, I do worry at the apparent low quality of the education system that has produced so many gullible and misinformed people.

I agree definitely not normal, what we are seeing with moon and sun.

Big question for the "field rotation" supporters....

Would "field rotation" explain why I have seen what appears to be a star in the sky at appearing about 4:58 pm est time today next to the moon in maryland?

Or am I just seeing jupiter next to the moon, in the DAYTIME sky, with the naked eye?

Also why are the various radar maps available to us on the web out of sync with GOV weather radar sites?

Could that be field rotation as well?

Don't let them fool ya, or even try to rule ya

Your observation doesn't make sense. The latest sunset for any part of Maryland on 12/14/2010 was 4:59 in the Monongahela National Forest. The earliest sunset was 4:40 near Elkton and Ocean City. So your observation was made after sunset or right at sunset when the Sun was hidden behind mountains. You did not see anything during DAYTIME.

he who prescribes the diameter of your knowledge also prescribes the circumference of your actions

Many thanks for correcting for me what MY EYES have seen. I suppose I am not seeing rampant tree death everywhere either?

It might as well be "Tree Leave Rotation"

Also no chance of me seeing chemtrails attempting to conceal and mask the sunset either.

No such thing as chemtrails, they are simply a normal event also known as "jet fuel rotation"

many thanks for correcting the error in my vision, and thinking

Whatever you folks have been smoking must be some good shit!

The moon did NOT tilt 90 degrees.

It's all in where the moon is in relation to where the sun is and where the earth is.

It's a Cosmic Illusion.

Before you go off all half-cocked with stupid commentary, how about doing some research???

Yes, I noticed the crescent moon was really strange looking as well. It took me awhile to figure out what was wrong - it was the tilt. I have cafe curtains (half curtains) in my dining area so I can always view the moon. It gets dark here at 4:30 PM at this this time of year so I can see the moon for a long period.

But anyway, I just searched for "moon" and found this thread because I wanted to see if anyone else noticed something strange about the FULL moon. This full moon was not entirely full/round. Did anyone else notice that? For the past few days, the shape of the moon has looked like it normally would during the two or three days before or after the full moon. My area has had clear skies. Anyone else notice this anomaly?

I'm just a person who has always liked watching the moon and, like others on this thread, I trust my eyes and my experience.
