The formulas used for calculating the moon's position in that book are more approximate in nature than what I used in my spreadsheet, but can be done by hand as opposed to taking up an entire spreadsheet. With it you can calculate and see for yourself that the moon SHOULD look "tilted" and even "horizontal" from various locations and times. And yes, that book IS used in astronomy classes.
