Anonymous Coward User ID: 36410788 United Kingdom 03/18/2013 02:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | saw this last night, but dismissed it... had a lot going on. then I found this youtube video today, and remembered that I noticed it last night. Quoting: Tony_Mundaca_In_Christ [link to www.youtube.com] Half wit, the earth rotates 360 degrees in a day 8 hours = 120 degrees. If you do the path involving rotation with two inclined planes using polar coordinates you will find all is to be expected. PS retard |

Dr. Astro Senior Forum Moderator User ID: 33360181 United States 03/18/2013 07:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Glad you agree, now if you could just kick that habit of perpetually lying... Hell, you could do some simple "back of the envelope" calculations on the moon's apparent position and orientation with this book alone: [link to www.worldcat.org] The formulas used for calculating the moon's position in that book are more approximate in nature than what I used in my spreadsheet, but can be done by hand as opposed to taking up an entire spreadsheet. With it you can calculate and see for yourself that the moon SHOULD look "tilted" and even "horizontal" from various locations and times. And yes, that book IS used in astronomy classes. Quoting: DVCMCM NO sideways Moon on the Northern Hemispere, its just not conteplated, MORON! And never happens too before late 2007. * What did I just tell you about lying Ducky? You really need to kick that habit of yours. It is "contemplated" and explained. It's completely predictable and normal, and yes it happened prior to 2007. Screaming that it's not does not make it so. Like I said, you need to read the books I linked you to and catch up. |

Dr. Astro Senior Forum Moderator User ID: 33360181 United States 03/18/2013 07:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It IS written in books, I just showed you which ones. Lying about it doesn't change it. Anyone can get those books for themselves and do the same calculations I've done. It's all right there, but you're too stupid to understand it. There, I said it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 13739618 Canada 03/18/2013 07:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | so the thing i don't get is this, most people have seen the moon for most of their lives. I don't recall seeing it live, in pictures or television or even movies where the bottom half of the moon is lit. Further, would this not mean the light source that the moons' bottom half is reflecting is coming from a different angle than previously? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13739618 No, it's still coming from the sun. Where is the sun? Below the horizon, in that case directly below the moon relative to the horizon. There's nothing odd about that. It's predictable and it's not new. I hate to say this, but most people don't spend much time studying the way the sky moves. They naively think the sun and moon rise in the east, set in the west, and there's some star that points north and it's the brightest star in the sky. That's the extent of astronomical knowledge of your average person, and it's wrong, wrong, wrong. I've been doing amateur astronomy for quite a while now and I know for a fact it's not "new." |
