It will be in better hands. You have no business owning a cat or any other animal. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1194037 United Kingdom 12/13/2010 09:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In Humans Chrysanthemum flower and Japanese Honeysuckle are most excellent for respiratory problems. I don't know if Cats can take those particular herbs but I know Cats seem to love Honeysuckle bushes and go under them regular as well as spray them as their territory regular. I've given a Cat the herb Echinacea with god results in the past, you may try that. Finally what I would suggest you try is giving the Cat himalayan salt in water or any salt for that matter in emergency. This should help the bronchi's open. The best way to do it is squirt some water down the cats mouth so its wetted by water. Then put the salt in the mouth without water. The cat won't like this. Then use a larger amount of water to clear this salt down the cat. This will fool the brain into thinking it has perfect water/salt stocks and will open the bronchi. [link to www.google.co.uk] |
Dr. House User ID: 1176427 United States 12/13/2010 09:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Most likely feline herpes not a flu. Feline Herpes (feline calicivirus) (often mistakenly called 'cat flu') is highly contagious, thus if you have more cats you need to follow the sick cat around and clean every spot it has coughed at with an antibacterial and keep the other cats away. Further you need to isolate the sick cat from the rest. While it is highly contagious (like Kennel Cough for dogs) it is rarely fatal, only being fatal to wee kittens and older cats or cats with existing health issues. Its an upper lung infection, thus you usually do not have the other complications that deep lung infections cause. Treatment should be one baby aspirin cut in half, crushed and added to something like tuna Juice (maybe a bite of tuna too to tempt the cat) every 6 hours. This will ease the symptoms. BEFORE using aspirin get acquainted with the symptoms of severe aspirin allergy for animals, like humans they can (if sensitive) enter anaphylaxis, however it is extremely rare in cats. Usually aspirin allergy in cats results in extra scratching at themselves as they develop a minor skin rash. The first time a cat gets 'feline flu' it will be worse than any other time. However once they have it and go through it, any other outbreak will be far less severe in symptoms. If the cat is wheezing, or having problem breathing, take it to the vet immediately, this could be a sign that the infection has been complicated and is becoming a deep lung infection which does kill in a high number of cases.
