If you get your hands on a globe and rotate it so Uk is at the well top for want of a better word. Now stand back with your head at the same level as the globe and have a looksey at the geometry of the uk. The sun rises and sets in a vaguelly southern direction. Rises in south east sets in south west

people....the sun setting higher or further than the equatorial line is what allows the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere to have opposite summers and winters. The sun sets lower/closer to the equator during Northern Winters and explains 30 days of night in some upper areas of northern hemisphere and sets higher in Northern Summers, which explains why those same areas that get 30 days of night, also get a perpetual twilight when the sun doesnt really "set".
