"This lunar eclipse falls on the date of the northern winter solstice. How rare is that? Total lunar eclipses in northern winter are fairly common. There have been three of them in the past ten years alone. A lunar eclipse smack-dab on the date of the solstice, however, is unusual. Geoff Chester of the US Naval Observatory inspected a list of eclipses going back 2000 years. "Since Year 1, I can only find one previous instance of an eclipse matching the same calendar date as the solstice, and that is 1638 DEC 21," says Chester. "Fortunately we won't have to wait 372 years for the next one...that will be on 2094 DEC 21."

Will the moon be high or low in the sky?
Eastern sky or western sky?
Viewed from the east coast that is?

Reason I ask is trees.

If it will be low in western sky I wont bother getting
up because I couldn't see it for the trees.

I just had a light headedness a few minutes ago. Whew. Now I'm feeling a little antsy, and feel a little rocking thing.

I just looked up and the moon is almost directly above me.
The skies are cloudy, but thin and very fast moving.

Has anyone gone out and looked at the moon already? Just did in central time zone to check the cloud cover- little bit with fast moving clouds. Weirdest thing though when I looked at it. I saw a glowing blue trim around it and what seemed to resemble the flower of life design within it. Now I did not have my glasses on so it would be normally a little blurry- my eyes aren't too bad. I was quite taken back by what I saw- I am taking it to be a good sign with peaceful and loving energies coming to Earth. Excited to see what it will look like in a few hours.

It's wonderful viewing between the clouds.

Lol! Thats just exactly what I was fixin to do, smoke a bowl, sit in my back yard in a lawn chair with my binoculars. It'sa little on the chilly side here in Oklahoma but I'm dressed for it....on with the show!
