A Japanese daily says U.S. President Barack Obama expressed strong complaints to China over the way it responded to North Korea’s artillery attack against South Korea’s Yeonpyeong Island.
The Mainichi Shimbun quoted various diplomatic sources as saying Wednesday that Obama told Chinese President Hu Jintao during a telephone conversation earlier this month that the U.S. has its own plans should China continuously refuse to actively address issues related to the North. He apparently was complaining about China’s handling of the North’s artillery attack last month.
The report said that shortly after Obama’s call, China sent State Councilor Dai Bingguo to the North. Dai reportedly met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and exerted strong pressure. |
