Some time ago I read a book on how the Nazi"s, more specifically the SS were put together. Iy went pretty well like his story goes. TPTB selected sociopaths, (as he states, those with no sense of guilt).
One of the ways they recruited was in the training of the Cadets in the Hitlers' youth Camps. Each young recruit was paired up with a dog (generally German shepherd). As was normal a strong bond was achieved with the recruit and the dog, but at the end of their training they were ordered to cut their dogs throat. Those who showed no guilt or emotion, were the ones trained into the roles in the SS.
