???????Garlic Bread....soggy or crispy???????
What's the best garlic bread, to you?

Soggy or crispy?

My daughter's crazy cat ate the bread on the counter last night, so I need to replace it.

Please help.

Soft in the middle, crispy on top, and make sure you de-fur the darn thing!

Kitty's about 6 months old and dragged one of two baguettes off the counter, ripped the plastic off and nibbled random chunks. He's a mess already, I'll let him keep his fur. lol.

So, do you broil slices with garlic butter or bake them? I don't know how to do that crunchy soft thing.

Crispy with the edges slightly burned and some cheese that's a little brown on top.

The red-wax kind of chunk o cheese melts weird for me.

I usually go with Mozzarella or another cheese that REALLY escapes me right now... I don't remember the name of it.

Yes, I've used chopped fresh basil on garlic bread.

If it's being served with say spaghetti or chili, then definately crisp. If it's being served as a table bread (like a dinner roll) then soft is best.

Bed, after you make it normal soft style, put in it the oven on high broil for just a few mins prior to serving, that'll crisp it up ;)

You bake it first, then finish it with a brief broil to brown the top, making the exterior crisp with the interior soft.

It should never be soggy. That's disgusting.

Re: ???????Garlic Bread....soggy or crispy???????
This is too weird.

I just made a large batch of garlic bread just a few minutes ago for lunch. I had bbq ribs and garlic bread.

Yep, soft but crisp, almost burnt at the edges. Fresh Parmesan cheese works too. Gotta be fresh real garlic finely chopped then mashed tho. I usually melt butter in a small pan first, add minced garlic for a minute, then sorta soak my bread with it.

That's what I'm thinking too. The kitty bite marks kinda destroy my chances of serving it as a loaf. So, I have to slice it. I only have fresh romano and considered using blue cheese too, but not together.

I need to know if fresh basil and cheese are good enough to warrant the price of the fresh basil..?????????

Re: ???????Garlic Bread....soggy or crispy???????
It depends on what YOU want.

Personally when I make bread (regular wheat bread, nothing fancy, except I make it from scratch) I make a long loaf, bake it until its got a nice crust, then let cook and sit out over night.

The next day I slice it down the middle, the interior is still soft while the crust is nice and crunchy.

I make a concoction of butter (real butter) fresh pressed garlic and whatever herbs sound good at the time, then I spread that out thinly over the bread and put it in the broiler for about 15 minutes.

The top gets all toasty brown, and the inside is all warm and soft.

Lightly toast the bread slices. Top with extra virgin olive oil, garlic powder & a little garlic salt. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese & finally a small amount of ground paprika. Then broil until the cheese is lightly browned on top.

Get a loaf of good French bread and cut it lengthwise. Take a stick of butter and soften, and add crushed garlic and any herbs you like and stir it all together.

Spread liberally on the cut side of the bread, and put under a low broiler until it gets nice and toasty.

If you like the cheese thing, just sprinkle a little fresh finely grated Parmigiano Reggiano.

Re: ???????Garlic Bread....soggy or crispy???????
My favorite way to make garlic is to take a loaf of french bread and slice into serving sizes, but don't cut all the way through. Leave a little room for what I call a garlic pocket. Take a fresh clove of peeled garlic and rub it on the top of the loaf. Chop garlic up into tiny pieces. Butter the top of the bread and in between the sliced areas. Sprinkle garlic pieces on top and inside the the sliced areas. Bake at 350 for 5 -10 min. depending on how crispy you like your bread. The insides will stay soft and moist. hf
