Any Indpendent Travel Agents On GLP?
If so, I'd be interested in any tips as I'm considering taking the plunge.

No one? I'm actually quite surprised.

The economy is changing but not disappearing. There seems to be plenty of money to be made in a hi-end niche market.

Yes - I was just starting out in the industry 10 years ago but life, as always, takes different turns...

Since the economy has been changing, there are no "regular" jobs here anymore BUT big money has been moving in. I am also presently in a position where I can utilize the infrastructure (name, business bank account, website, art gallery/office in an exclusive neighborhood) and more importantly, the client list of an established name in the art biz.

Wanna charter your own Lear for your next trip MO? I can get you VIP clearance through security and customs as well. ;)

Don't do it unless you have a client base that you could start booking for right now. The business is not what it used to be.

I know and that's the key for me right now - I have access to a potential client base that includes nothing but the rich and famous.

I'm hoping so! I've been out of the travel business for quite a few years and never ran my own before - that's why I'm doing as much "homework" as I can before actually starting.

If there are any successful travel consultants out there in GLP land, any hints or advice would be well appreciated.

Sorry I am late on this, I did a search and just found this post. I own my own home based agency. I actually opened it in 2008 (part time) in the middle of the recession and in 2010, I was able to quit my full time job and work full time with my company instead. Now there are 4 agents, including myself, working with my company and I'm bringing on more soon.

I started with no knowledge of the industry and no client base. It was tough and took a lot of hard work, but if you already have your foot in the door you'll be fine. It can't hurt since there isn't even much of a start up cost involved. Plus, the travel perks are awesome.

Feel free to me if you still have questions: [email protected]

Good luck! :)
