Bright pink night sky again! WTF???
It's 9:15 pm in Cabot Arkansas. The sun went down at 5:06 and the moon which is only a half moon tonight producing a 46% luminosity will not rise until 12:25 am. My question is why in hell does it appear to be morning. The pink shade of light is bright enough to drive with no lights down a road with no street lamps. I find it hard to believe it is refraction from the city through particles of dust and water from the lights here in this tiny town. It just doesn't add up. Can anyone verify or at least give me an educated answer. I have a decent education and a military and firefighting background and I don't think I am crazy... Or am I? Any comments will be taken seriously. Thank you and Happy New Year. flick

I'm in west virginia and noticed the same thing....never seen it so bright in the night sky...looks like sun rise and its 3am.

the only answer i can think of here is that the fresh snow fall is reflecting a lot of light back up into the sky....but that must be some impressive reflections.

I cannot answer your Q, but I do know, that the reflections and the light from the snowy landscape IS what has been keeping the Nordic ppl SANE during dark winter periods, when we have some sort of "daylight" from 11am to 2 pm. wuhfaint

It was like that in west Houston a couple of nights ago. This was a pale pink, almost glowed. Very strange.

Exactly. My problem wasn't the color or the light so much but rather the Intensity of the light and not only that but the fact that the moon was at about 12 to 14% lum and on the other side of Gaia made it extra WTF!

Generally it's caused by light pollution (as you state). But I'm not going to piss on your conspiracy parade. Maybe you have some goofy government clouds that trap and reflect light back, I don't know.

I am in Minnesota and have noticed the same thing several times. The sky is illuminated behind a mass of clouds by something giving off a red glare, turning the clouds a deep, dark pink. It is very weird looking. Only seems to happen after midnight. Did not know it was happening elsewhere. Thanks for the heads up on this!

I am still searching for data on the subject but all the normal explanations just don't put the pieces together. I understand that pollution and refraction from city lights can cause a similar effect but nothing like what I am seeing and lunar light can also have a like effect but on the night's that I post some of these I make sure I know where the moon is and when it is scheduled to rise/set and for the most part I have reported this happening hours before or after luna is even close so WTF! I'm no idiot and I do my homework and from what I have gathered none of these explanations can be to blame. Of course that's just my opinion. Be well!

Perhaps. To tell you the truth I really can't find a reason for such an extreme %age of lume. On some night's it's so bright I could navigate quite easily with no light's down a road with no lamp's. Very odd.

I found this actually looking for an explanation for the sky right now. I'm in St. Petersburg, Fl. and the sky isn't bright pink, but its reddish pink, and there seems to be no moon.. its 1 a.m. right now, butit almost looks like the sun just went down.. so weird.
