I hate paying $7 or more. Will this become a barter item?

I'll have some. What could you offer in trade when it is 70$/LB at the store?

Excellent organic eggs? Handmade winter coat? Bullets?

Coffee is not something you need to survive.

Water shortages would be a crisis but this is not. People could drop coffee if they had to, it's not going to kill you after all.

I do think that prices will skyrocket soon , so im stocked up are you?

Have you seen sugar lately?

I have about 400 pounds of sugar stocked, I buy what I can every week and put it in storage.

How do you store your sugar to keep it from becoming rock hard?

Why should I live without, when just a bit of preparation and storage ensures a 2-year supply?

How long will a canister of coffee last unopened?

The exp date on mine says two years. I looked.

Excellent. Sugar and most spices will last indefinitely if unopened.

I'm thinking if you keep it in a cool place, it may last even longer. Wonder if coffee beans have a longer shelf life.

They do. Once ground, they immediately begin to lose freshness and flavor. A coffee grinder will be worth its weight in gold soon. Get one of the antique hand-driven grinders. You can always offer to grind for others for a small fee;say,a 1/6 pound.Or a couple of bullets.
I have promises to keep....

I store it in mylar bags sealed with a hot iron. I dont put o2 removers in sugar because this will also cause it to become a brick. You can still eat it either way. I buy the mylar bags on ebay.

That's good to know. I think I'm going to look for at bulk bean prices. I have a hand wheat mill. It does a great job grinding rice for rice flour. Maybe it would grind coffee as well.

Looks like I just added something on my list of things to investigate in the New Year.

Now this has got me thinking I should buy a new coffee maker, as mine is quite old already.

What's the best brand of maker to buy?

I KNOW! I stock up when it's $5.99 and a bit more but when it's too high, what will I do for that morning cup? Herbs?

You're the one who advertises TEOTAWATKI in your personal ad, and you have a problem with herbs?!?!?

Better learn to identify dandelion and chicory on the roadside if you want a coffee substitute. And then learn to pull the roots, dry them and roast them for a satisfying beverage that won't have the caffeine you're looking for, but will at least have the heartiness of coffee.

Get on the ball, sister.

I use one while camping and another at home.

Right. Kick the coffee habit and learn to pick and roast dandelion root and chicory root for yourself. And buy coffee anyway to barter with those who are hopelessly addicted!!!

Glenn Beck is Mormon. I believe Mormons don't drink coffee as part of their religious practice (anything with caffiene).

As for $77 a pound coffee: I hope his prediction doesn't to pass because I live on the stuff!

I have a word for $77 dollar a pound coffee: POSTUM!

POSTUM came about here in the states during WWII when there were massive coffee shortages. Chickory is the ingredient. It has a unique taste. You can still by POSTUM at many grocery stores in the States.
