Seems that the further north you go, the worse it gets. What's the weather like in the north and south UK?

I'm sorry to inform you but it is really the doctors that are killing these people, not flu out of pure ignorance. Flu is highly preventable. All y'all had to do was take enough vitamin D and you wouldn't have this mess.

The South West has been a few degrees milder than elsewhere and we haven't had any reports of deaths or critical cases. I haven't heard any problems at our local hospitals either.

Re: UK Swine Flu updates Feb 3 - 395 confirmed deaths, 327 in Critical Care
Virologists are concerned with three aspects of any influenza virus: (1) novelty, (2) transmissibility, (3) lethality. The current H1N1 is novel, that is, we have no antibodies to this strain. Its transmissibility is high but its lethality (percent who die after infection) is still low, except in Mexico. Why it was so lethal in Mexico, no one knows. Will that lethality return as the virus mutates this summer? Keep in mind that the lethality of the 1918 flu was high, perhaps a billion people infected, a half billion became ill, and, at the most, one tenth of a billion died. Until the 2009 virus exposes its lethality, and it may not do so until next fall or winter, we are all playing an involuntary game of Russian roulette.

Does that help? That article from India is silly, no offense.

I have posted this before but seems it must be told again.
My wife is a general nurse in south west. She deals with this every single day.
THere is nothing going on. There have been more than normal colds going around. Not unusual for unusual cold weather we have been getting.
I can tell you that it is all hyped

I am sorry but I don't believe you. I am in Yorkshire and my friend was an emergency admission on New Years day into ICU. Not with swine flu but the ICU was full and overflowing with flu victims on ventilators. It has been all the staff can talk about as so many of them are off sick, too. A ward used for non-emergency surgery has been closed and used for flu cases and that too is full.

The staff say they have never seen anything like it.

Just been on the news that they are considering banning the sale of the flu jab to people who are not in "at-risk" groups due to the vaccine shortage.

I have been following a discussion about virus changes here-> [link to www.flutrackers.com]

We have quite a lot of data now and the situation *seems* only marginally worse than last season. Although a lot of data is being withheld.

Weekly influenza report, 13 January 2011 [link to www.hpa.org.uk]
13 January 2011

In the past week, the HPA has confirmed a further 62 deaths from flu across the UK, bringing the total number since the flu season began in October this year to 112. Most of these deaths did not occur in the past week - a substantial number of these 62 deaths occurred in December but due to the backlog over the seasonal holiday period they have only been confirmed this week.

Where information is available on the fatal cases, 63 out of 81 (78 per cent) were in a clinical 'at risk' group for vaccination. Where information on vaccine status was available for this season's trivalent vaccine, 40 out of 47 had not received their jab this season.

Thanks for the thread OP.
Every time someone tries to get some current SF info. out there all the anti-flu-shot folks come rushing in to tangle the topic up flu shot debate.

For once can we just discuss the current trend in this virus and what we can all tangibly do about it?

You don't need to roast the SF OP every time !

It is strange, I'm not recording any deaths for London, SE & SW England, though I am seeing more hospitalisations for those areas, so deaths may follow.

I am also now seeing reports of schools being affected.

The total number of people who are reported to have died from flu in the UK since the season began in October has reached 338.

Of the 306 cases with information on age, ten have been aged less than five years; 14 were aged between 5-14; 217 aged between 15-64 and 65 were older than 64 years of age.

Where information on vaccine status was available for this season's trivalent vaccine, 26 out of 108 had received their jab this season.

I just came down with the flu (again). I spoke to a woman in a shop who said she'd been suffering for the last 3 weeks.
I'm a regular D3 and Vit C taker, so what that means, I don't really know. Expect to see more doom on this topic, because the symptoms are near instant and severe.
