Hong Kong researchers store data in bacteria

The US' national archives occupy more than 500 miles (800 kilometres) of shelving; France's archives stretch for more than 100 miles of shelves, as do Britain's.

Yet a group of students at Hong Kong's Chinese University are making strides towards storing such vast amounts of information in an unexpected home: the E.coli bacterium better known as a potential source of serious food poisoning.

Biostorage -- the art of storing and encrypting information in living organisms -- is a young field, having existed for about a decade.

In 2007, a team at Japan's Keio University said they had successfully encoded the equation that represents Einstein's theory of relativity, E=MC2, in the DNA of a common soil bacterium.

They pointed out that because bacteria constantly reproduce, a group of the single-celled organisms could store a piece of information for thousands of years.

But the Hong Kong researchers have leapt beyond this early step, developing methods to store more complex data and starting to overcome practical problems which have lent weight to sceptics who see the method as science fiction.

The group has developed a method of compressing data, splitting it into chunks and distributing it between different bacterial cells, which helps to overcome limits on storage capacity. They are also able to "map" the DNA so information can be easily located.

This opens up the way to storing not only text, but images, music, and even video within cells.

As a storage method it is extremely compact -- because each cell is minuscule, the group says that one gram of bacteria could store the same amount of information as 450 2,000 gigabyte hard disks.

i am uncertain if this fits the topic in my mind but it is interesting

Hmmm, now wouldn't it be ironic if what we really are is simply somethings ancient data storage system that evolved beyond its original purpose after being abandoned.

what you are seeing is rapid prototyping laser tech.

Rapid prototyping is the automatic construction of physical objects using additive manufacturing technology.

Foxes Use Earth's Magnetic Field To Hunt Prey, Scientists Say

Foxes seem to use the Earth’s magnetic field to track down their prey, apparently the only animal to use the field to judge distance as well as direction. A pair of researchers in the U.S. and Germany believe foxes have an innate augmented reality system allowing them to accomplish this

Many animals use the magnetic field to sense direction — the brains of birds, fish, humans and other creatures contain magnetite crystals, which help with navigation. Birds and amphibians have a second light-dependent navigation sense, and researchers think it might provide a “spherical coordinate system” that produces a pattern of light intensity superimposed on their surroundings, like an augmented reality system.

Anyway, the foxeses. Love 'em. Interesting animal spirit to work with; stealth and intelligent. Even though they're ferrel, they're understandable. Quick.

Have you ever been "cased" by a fox? Harhar, this happened to my roomate and I about a month ago. We had been hiking in the mountain, returned to the car, and there was this beautiful fox there. A very curious fox, there.

He certainly kept a concerted perimeter that he by slivers of space began reducing to come closer to us. No charging, like a bull. No posturing, like a bear. No flat out, 'I'm going to mess your ass all up', of the cougar. Just this systematic whittling down of space, piercing eyes-on at all times.

It wasn't aggressive, as in growling or snarling...but that "casing" prance of the fox can be f'n unnerving. And ya can't run; you're screwed if you run.

Ahhh...lol, fun with Mother Nature and good times on the Big Bluesy Marble, eh? hf

we are becoming aware we have not altered

The underlying premise of The Graphics of Bilzingsleben is that there has been no change whatsoever in human cognitive ability for at least 400,000 years. This statement is quite easily extended back at least 1.4 to 1.8 million years, and, in fact, to whatever point in time we choose to assign the first appearance of the genus Homo.

we know every culture remembers living in no fear

A global myth declares that the world has not always been as it is experienced now. In a former time, man lived in a kind of paradise, close to the gods. It was the Golden Age. Throughout an eternal spring, the earth produced abundantly, free from the seasonal cycles of decay and rebirth. And under this remarkable cosmic order, man experienced neither war nor sickness, neither hunger nor any requirement of human labor.

This recurring and unexplained myth was carried into modern times by primitive races the world over

Re: Marko Rodin - Smart Lazer Technology
not to dense a read as miles mathis shows us how the structure of our universe forces functions such as golden ration to be expressed and experienced how they are

he knows our universe is 95% volume of what is known today as dark matter, which is a term for cloaking what is known whilst the politics of it`s meaning are resolved
then a new name will be assigned to it reflecting it`s politically agreed function and place within our soon to be upgraded cosmology

in the meantime miles assigns it a name that reflects it`s function, photonic, charge photons

[link to milesmathis.com]

interestingly he brings the term all else into the physical realm of cause of effects, in both mathmatical and structural explanation

miles is the first scientist i have experienced using the term all else

miles says it is fundamental to all things

It is hidden in the word "everything." Above I said that the Moon was affected by (everything + Earth) and that the Earth was affected by (everything + Moon). Before we unlock the secret, let us study those words a bit more closely. You will say that I could apply that sort of word-math to any two bodies at random, but that isn't really true. As I just showed, the Earth and Moon are affecting one another via the charge field in a way that nothing else is affecting them. They are feeling weak charge from all other nearby bodies, but strong charge from one another, due only to distance. Also notice that they are feeling the same overall field from outside. In other words, the Moon receives the same forces from all other bodies that the Earth does. In this way, the “everything” of the Moon is equal to the “everything” of the Earth. Whatever the Earth receives from the Sun, the Moon also receives. Whatever the Earth receives from Jupiter, the Moon also receives. Whatever the Earth receives from the galactic core, the Moon also receives. This is simply because the Moon is orbiting the Earth.

Abu Dhabi-backed scientists create fake rainstorms in $11m project

Scientists working for the Abu Dhabi government created more than 50 rainstorms in Al Ain in July and August of 2010, during the peak of the emirate’s summer months.

The rains are part of a secret $11m project, reportedly commissioned by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,

President of the UAE, which used ionisers to generate storms, the UK’s Sunday Times said.

It is thought to be the first time the team had produced man-made rain from otherwise clear skies.
 Quoting: Science

[link to www.arabianbusiness.com]

Scientists installed a network of interconnected conductors in the desert that release clouds of negatively charged ions. As the particles rise in the hot air, they attract water vapor in the atmosphere, since water is a dipolar molecule with both positive and negative poles.

It is commonly believed that weather on Earth is driven by the Sun's thermal influence on the atmosphere. As we rotate beneath our primary, gases and dust absorb solar radiation at varying rates and in varying degrees.

When any particular region heats up, the air expands and loses density, creating a relative low pressure area. Cooler air, being denser, will naturally flow into the bottom of the warm, low pressure region, causing an upwardly rotating convection cell to form. Most weather systems on Earth are thought to be based on that simple kinetic explanation: winds blow when the cooler, denser air flows into the warmer, buoyant air.

However, ions attract water in the atmosphere instead of through the commonly described process of neutral dust motes building up raindrops through a process of condensation. The dust hanging in the air becomes charged, making it more attractive to water vapor.

Since Earth is immersed in the stream of ions permeating space, it holds an electric field at its surface of 50 – 200 volts per meter. The electricity from space carried by ionic particles emitted by the Sun, otherwise known as the “solar wind,” speeds along massive Birkeland currents through a circuit connecting the Sun with our planet. Water molecules are electric dipoles and are attracted to an opposite polar charge, such as that on another water molecule, so they clump together, aligned within Earth’s “fair weather field.”

It was in September of 2006 that a major premise of Electric Universe theory was confirmed: Earth weather is electrically connected to the ionosphere. Since electricity always flows in a circuit, if the ionosphere connects to Earth's magnetosphere then it connects to the circuits of the Solar System, as well.

The ionosphere is connected to the Sun by twisting filaments of electric current, so the lower levels of the atmosphere must also experience the Sun's influence because of the additional circuit node that connects them with the ionosphere. Could these electric circuits linking the atmosphere with the Sun have anything to do with Earth's climate in either the short or long term?

This leads to the more general idea that all weather may be influenced by the electrical connection between Earth and solar plasma. The larger view has only recently been considered, so experiments designed to verify the effect that charged particles have on Earth's weather are now being conducted. It appears that they are having some success.

Electric Universe physicist Wal Thornhill wrote:

"If conventional theory fails to explain electrical storms it cannot be used to discount the results of ionization experiments. Instead, conventional theory suffers doubts about its basic plausibility. Weather experts have a limited view of the electrical nature of the Earth and its environment. The 'enormous power input' is freely available from the galaxy. That galactic electrical power drives the weather systems on all of the planets and even the Sun. So the ionization experiment is rather like the control gate in a transistor, where a small current into the control gate influences the entire power output of the transistor. This method of weather control should eventually force the critics to think again."

Whatever the Earth receives from the galactic core, the Moon also receives. This is simply because the Moon is orbiting the Earth.

More is unknown than is known. We know how much dark energy there is because we know how it affects the Universe's expansion. Other than that, it is a complete mystery. But it is an important mystery. It turns out that roughly 70% of the Universe is dark energy
