Ahh but you see they say space is expanding faster than light, which enables them to claim that the light they see is billions of years in the past, since we got to our present location faster than the light traveling through space, not with it (never mind that this flies in the face of the prohibition against anything traveling faster than light, you are not to consider this line of thought and become aware of the contradiction). Of course there is no such thing as expanding space faster than light, so the light they see could not possibly be from the BB event as you have surmised. The BB was to placate both science and religion and end the centuries long feud bewteen the two. For if the universe was created, then in thier minds it is possible God did it, so believers are free to believe as they wish and not contradict science. It is no coincidence that it was a priest that put forth the BB theory.

Of course this light is billions of years in the past and they are indeed witnessing a BB event, just not what they imagine it to be. They are witnessing the birth of quasars and the energy output as the one that led up to eventually our galaxies birth and ejection exploded into space. Galaxies exist in clusters and strings, one ejected from another in an ongoing process.
