Do you know anyone like that?

They say things like they "own" a yahoo account as opposed to having a yahoo account. They "own" a company as opposed to participating in an employee stock ownership program.
Their employer is their "client".

Another symptom I tend to see is that they consider themselves above all others on one, more, many or even all subjects - to the point that no one else has any value to add to the conversation.

It is rather frustrating to try to converse with these kinds of people.

Am I alone, or does anyone else know of someone they interface with (IRL or Online) like that and how do you handle it?

That sounds more narcissistic than having low self esteem. Low self esteem is more like feeling worthless/incapable.

Thanks, but I'm not reading through 6400 posts for something that is a current concern.

This is what I am trying to pin down. Is this narcissism or overcompensating for low self-esteem? The behaviour is almost as if the people feel threatened by anyone who takes the spotlight off of their "brilliance".

Does that make sense?
