Why Are People on Ebay so Stupid?!

To match the buyers.

eBay has really gone to shit. No one fucking pays, eBay refuses to refund listing fees, or if they do it takes months, just plain idiocy all around.

just to mark their place? 10 days is a long time for some memories.

I bid only in the last 30 seconds.

A few times I've snaked a good deal.

Usually I watch nong-nong bidders keep going in .50 or 1.00 increments for a week until its out of range of a decent deal.

I wait to the last 15 minutes before i bid, yeah, weird few figured that out... bid early and you just jack up the price

that's why they have the "add to watchlish" button for. All they're doing is bumping it the price for no reason

The real idiots are the ones that jack the price right-up to full capacity within the first day.

As a seller, I've had stupid people bid up my item to the point where by the time the auction ended the price was double than the actual value of the item.
It only happened that way once, but it was a big-ticket item and i managed to eke out a $1500 profit.
Sold a coin valued at $1500 and those dumb bidders started bidding it up right away all the way upto + $3000..,
what a score! I even got paid without any scams...

I am in UK and if i need something, i open two windows to make sure i keep track of time. I bid only once and with 5 seconds to go. It will not give a chance for anyone to outbid me if i am the highest bidder.
It works very well for me and i will never go over a price i have in mind.
I have bagged many items this way.

Yes, you can put the thing on your watch list. But if you bid it stands out and it´s easier to keep an eye on.

many people get over excited and ruin it for the others. They do not take in to account the postage, commision for paypal etc and bid for too much for some items. sometimes more than the new price. I also go to actual general houe auctions in UK and stupid people do the same thing.

not everyone is ebay 'savvy', so many get excited early ... and as some have mentioned, some sellers are shills (they bid on other accounts to push the price up)

saying that, I always place 1 bid early (especially if there are no bids) .... just to make it a bit more difficult for the seller to sell 'off line'

and then, if I am still interested, I bid in the last 15 seconds with a proxy bid (the most that I am prepared to pay)

I don´t know why you call them dumb. You´re putting stuff up for auction with the very purpose of finding people who bid up your item.

Some people do not care about price at all. They might really want the item and may not want to have to start looking for it again. Some items are unique. And for some people what seems like a lot of money to you is just pocket change. When the amount is trivial, it makes little sense to pinch pennies.

Some people may get carried away, that´s quite possible.

Another possibility is that they may know where to sell the thing for a higher price--when you don´t know about it or where you may not have access.

Another possible explanation is that people buy items with a long term outlook. They may not be so sensitive to price today if they are convinced that the item will be worth a lot more in the future.

Or maybe they´re dumb people with money... as you say. But I don´t think it´s the only explanation.

I love e-bay BECAUSE people bid the items up up up and I end up getting more than anticipated. OP must be sour grapes and is upset because others are willing to pay more.

My answer was the correct one. I am a 13 year seller and have never witnessed sellers doing what some of you say, in fact there are strict eBay policies against such activity. Some sellers, like me, set the price low to encourage bidding and excitement but most of what I sell is collectibles and used books. It's just a marketplace so spend where and how you wish.

I agree, it drives me crazy. I have seen people bid so high when the same product in on sale at a store. All they would have to do is google it. Deciding how much you wish to pay and bidding on it at the end seems common since. You don't win a bid with 3 days left, you win when time runs out. I have never seen someone win who bids too early unless the bid was higher than it was worth.

I sell used Snowmobile and ATV parts, It's good money, but damn Ebay and paypal charge alot.

So many people on Ebay sell stuff that they have no idea what they are selling about for dirt Cheap- like example networking hardware for several hundred dollars cheaper, other fools on ebay buy it at dirt cheap and resell it for several hundred dollars higher. Than you have people from china that offer a cash buy out again for dirt cheap and they immediatly resell it for a $100.00- $1000.00 or more all because of idiots of ebay.

almost everything used on ebay is MORE expensive than the same thing brand fucking new on Amazon. It's truly ridiculous, I too came to the conclusion that most people on ebay are either stupid or they are fraudsters.

What has happened to Ebay, is that it has been infested with white trash low iq types thinking theyre computer savvy because they know how to setup an ebay auction page. They ALL bid on their own auctions to drive the price up and they all have ridiculous shipping charges (usually 2-3 times what the actual shipping cost them)
Ebay sellers in my mind are all just like the capitol one commercial with the "Peggy" answering the phone...some ignoramous white trash scumbag

Got outbid by a little girl on some "My Little Pony" stuff and that made you bitter? I find deals all the time on Ebay and save a lot of cash. I also sell a lot on Ebay and am a top rated Power Seller. Only if you are a Tard will you overpay on Ebay. I also figure out my maximum and use Bidnapper to put in my bid with 5 seconds left in the auction, but normally only use Buy it Now.

I did that for my dad once. he listed an item to low by accident. I was sweating a bit at the end before I was overbid. my dad would have made me pay for it if I had won. including shipping. lol

That's why you buy CHEAP on craigslist and then let morans pay extra on ebay. I know a guy who clears 100k per year doing this.
