Re: How many of you WALK your CAT on a LEASH?????? poll
I have, HAD too in Arizona or he would have been eaten by coyotes, hawks, etc....

It did not go well at first... many sit down strikes.

but he got used to it, AS long as he could leed me!!! it was a co-operative effort. Once he understood it was for his safety, I had not trouble.

Bless his heart, he died last year... beloved Panther!

Maybe I should just pick up a used Popemobile.

I have seen little dogs pushed around in enclosed stroller things. I could not help but to point and laugh.

I don't think that kind of walk does much good for an animal.

Seriously... I must add... I saw a pack of coyotes in AZ and four of them all had rabbits and one had an orange tabby in their mouths... all still alive.. and they were going to their feast.....

after that I trained my cat. First several times, we just sat in the yard. It takes time and love.

Cats will follow you. no leash needed.

In the past I would lead cats out into the woods at night. they would all follow me, and come back home at the end.

My cat would love it. But the only things on leashes coming the other way would be dogs - imagine the mayhem.

It's not a ridiculous idea at all! I have some (very expensive) cats that I would not trust outside but can take them out on the deck in a crate or on a leash.

Re: How many of you WALK your CAT on a LEASH?????? poll
I have walked my cats on a leash. One time something startled the cat and he took off like a rocket. He took all the slack out of the leash and was doin a wheelie down the sidewalk, and ricocheted off a tree. Finally I was able to get close enough to him to pick him up, and carried him home the rest of the way. I wish I had a video of that!!

I have 2 cats and I do it almost everyday, just put on a harness and off we go. Never had any problems. I usually go to a park nearby and walk back and they seem to enjoy it. Don't use just a collar, harness is much better.

I agree but sometimes there's no other option if you want to get them outside.
Was catsitting my daughter's cat in Seattle and if he had bolted we would have never seen him again. Once he realized the leash allowed him to go outside he
was okay with it. But then, he's a pretty mellow cat.

Wouldn't exactly call it 'walking' tho. And he could turn around and back out of the harness, so I had to pay attention. He tried to a couple of times when something spooked him. In general though the harness worked pretty well
and was easy to adjust.

Can't even imagine putting my cat in a harness, he would probably land on top of my head or something.

Re: How many of you WALK your CAT on a LEASH?????? poll
tried once... that's all it took

when he realized the weirdness of the harness was attached to the end of a leash, restricting his flight it was like trying to hold on to a buzz saw turned helicopter
he slashed, climbed, flipped and flew all over the place
couldn't let him go, knew I'd never see him again

an absolute, bloody nightmare!

Re: How many of you WALK your CAT on a LEASH?????? poll
Yes walked my cats on a harness and leash. Not around the kneck. Turned out they didn't need it. They would walk with me fine. I felt they were safer in case dogs came along.

We went down by the river sometimes. In truth they hated the car. I should have taken them in the car when they were younger.

Walked with me for years without leashes. We loved it.

I walked my kitty, Georgia, on a leash. Once. She ran up a tree and got the leash tangled in the branches. Took my ages to climb up and release her. Bit like having a balloon.

Re: How many of you WALK your CAT on a LEASH?????? poll
I had a cat that I used to walk (without a leash) at the same time as my dog. He would follow me and the dog down the walking trail stopping every now and then to look around, and then sprinting to catch up to us.

I used to let him out on his own until a coyote starting hunting him down....

I have two who regularly follow me down to the stream at the back of our place for a walk. They don't need leashes and never go too far from me. They also know their limits and don't stray too far into the nearby territories of other cats.

Re: How many of you WALK your CAT on a LEASH?????? poll
do not need a leash to take walks with cats. they catch on and follow you if you start walking with them outside.. if you meet your cat in the forrest for instance. not around people and noise.
