Yeah, right. The airport's main runways were built to be perfectly aligned with the magnetic north and south. For aviation purposes, that designates a runway as 18 Right, 36 Left, or 18 degrees due south and 36 degrees due north. But here is what is important.. The new designations will be 19R and 1L, a shift of one full compass degree. This means that the magnetic north pole is some 668 miles removed from its original position, when the airport's current runways were first built, some four decades ago. OK, now that is a problem. The local news report also suggested that the north pole is currently shifting its position by 40 miles per year. WTF?? If the North Pole had been shifting its position at the same rate for the past 40 years, it would have moved 1600 miles in that time!! Now obviously that did not happen. In short, this means that the magnetic poles of this Earth are now moving at an extraordinarily rapid rate.. unprecedented in fact. And the mainstream media are trying to claim that this has been happening all along, as the local news report also stated. That is a bald faced lie! It used to be that the North Pole was drifting maybe a meter or two every year, NOT 40 freaking miles!! This can only mean one thing: A full magnetic reversal is due to happen within the next few years, period! You can bet all of the mass bird die-offs and fish kills are related to aberrations in the magnetic field. Naturally, the officials are trying to blame lightning, hail, high winds or anything other than the obvious, which is the magnetic poles and the planet's magnetic field rapidly weakening as it gets ready to reverse. No one can say for sure what the results of this reversal will be but you can be sure they will be major. The thing to watch for now is strange symptoms happening in your own body, such as frequent headaches, disrupted sleep patterns, rapid heart beat, a feeling of disorientation or being "out of balance," strange and persistent fatigue, etc. Keep watching, keep alert and keep vigilant. That is all that I or anyone with knowledge can tell you. |

During the 20th century it moved 1100 km, and since 1970 its rate of motion has accelerated from 9 km/year to 41 km/year, or 1.3 mm/sec (2001–2003 average; see also Polar drift). If it maintained its present speed and direction it would reach Siberia in about 50 years, but it is expected to veer from its present course and slow its rate of motion [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1220582 Germany 01/07/2011 04:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Charles Hapgood first came to public attention in the mid-1950s with his theory of earth crust displacement, a radical geological idea which attracted the curiosity and support of Albert Einstein. The Einstein-Hapgood correspondence is a forgotten page in the history of science. We obtained these letters (ten from Einstein to Hapgood) from Albert Einstein's Archives in the Fall of 1995. They show, for the first time, just how extensively Albert Einstein was involved in assisting Charles Hapgood in the development of the theory of earth crust displacement. In his second reply (24 November 1952) to Hapgood, Einstein wrote that the idea of earth crust displacement should not be ruled out "apriori" just because it didn't fit with what we wanted to believe about the earth's past. What was needed, Einstein claimed, was solid "geological and paleontological facts." For six months, Hapgood gathered geological evidence to support the idea of an earth crust displacement. On the 3rd of May 1953 he forwarded thirty-eight pages of this evidence to Einstein. Central to his argument was Hapgood's evidence that Lesser Antarctica was ice-free at the same time that North America lay smothered in ice. Einstein responded (8 May 1953): "I find your arguments very impressive and have the impression that your hypothesis is correct. One can hardly doubt that significant shifts of the crust have taken place repeatedly and within a short time." He urged Hapgood to follow up on evidence of "earth fractures". A month later (11 June 1953) Hapgood sent Einstein forty-two pages of evidence on earth fractures and the evolution of the ice sheets. Einstein wrote (17 December 1953) Hapgood urging him to address the "centrifugal momentum" problem. Hapgood responded with four pages on this problem and thirty-seven pages of "paleontological evidence" including the frozen mammoths of Arctic Siberia. Einstein was now convinced. On the 18th of May 1954, Einstein wrote a very favorable foreword for Hapgood's book EARTH'S SHIFTING CRUST: A KEY TO SOME BASIC PROBLEMS OF EARTH SCIENCE (published in 1958 by Pantheon Books, New York). The Foreword begins: "I frequently receive communications from people who wish to consult me concerning their unpublished ideas. It goes without saying that these ideas are very seldom possessed of scientific validity. The very first communication, however, that I received from Mr. Hapgood electrified me...." Hapgood and Einstein continued to correspond and finally met in January of 1955. Einstein's last letter was dated the 9th of March 1955 just weeks before the great physicist died on the 18th of April 1955. Einstein's Archives are held in Jerusalem (with copies at Princeton) where they hold the record of an unique and unheralded collaboration on the theory of earth crust displacement. |

At first I thought it might be releated to the fact that I was a bit ill, but maybe there are some other explanations as well. Lately I fall asleep around 5-6 AM, but that leaves me 1-2 hours sleep before I have to wake up for work. Usually, on work days, I go to bed around 11-12 PM. It has happened to me twice during the last month and never before. It usually happens for 3-4 days in a row and then, probably because I was already very sleepy not having slept for several days, I finally get back on track. I just started thinking about it and it being releated to the bird/fish deaths and the polarshift? ...but it could also be rleated to a million other things, so I am just curious. The weird thing is that I know my brother also has had sleeping trouble lately during the last month. Just to be clear I am from north-eastern Europe. |

recluse User ID: 1136826 United States 01/07/2011 05:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thank you, great post OP!!! Read entire thread. Since no one has mentioned this, here goes: The sun's magnetic field reverses polarity approximately every 11 years during solar maximum sunspot activity. Last solar pole flip happened in 2001. Next one is due in 2012. Link: [link to science.nasa.gov] From same link: "The Sun's dipolar field is about as strong as a refrigerator magnet, or 50 gauss (a unit of magnetic intensity). Earth's magnetic field is 100 times weaker." And, as OP posted from Scientific American: "At most places there has been a general decrease in the strength over the past century, typically ten percent or so" [in earth's magnetic field strength] Question: Could the solar pole flip at solar maximum in 2012 magnetically induce an earth pole flip when the solar magnetic "flip waves" engulf the earth soon afterwards? Computer models produced "spontaneous reversals" (OP's second link). I found the "geomagnetic dynamo" simulation very helpful in visualizing what is happening: [link to www.pbs.org] So an earth magnetic pole reversal in 2012 appears entirely possible. After all, last earth pole flip was about 750,000 years ago and average is around 300,000 years. Next Question: Will the earth's spin reverse in a magnetic reversal? When the sun's magnetic poles flip, the sun does not start spinning in the opposite direction. So this may be true of the earth as well. Does anyone reading this have any indications otherwise? Evidence of a coming magnetic reversal will be just what we have been hearing about: magnetic compass readings fluctuating in different areas of the planet; birds, fish and other migrating animals losing their way; people experiencing dizziness, disorientation, rushes of energy, ringing ears, visual changes. Aware readers--please add to this list anomalies you may be experiencing. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1064869 Belgium 01/07/2011 06:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | WTF getting dizzy by pole shift ??? Look when you face towards the geographical northpole or even magnetic north pole, and you turn around 180°, facing south YOU DON'T feel Dizzy Either. Do you? Though electrically spoken you just passed through a 180°C magnetical pole shift (Except if you feel dizzy because you are sick in your inner ear or have bad equilibrium of course :-)) If the average is 300.000 years for a pole flip and now we are behind "schedule" That does not mean it is bound to happen now. Statistically it is average 300.000 in the past. That does not say anything for the future. There might be such geological processes that since the last flip it will never happen again (e.g. less movement in the earth core, due to cooling) I don't say this is true. But you are never sure until it happens again. That is what science is about I thought. If the pole is shifting 60 km per year, it might just be a new geological phenomenon for the next 1.000.000.000 years that the pole shifts 60 km per year wtihout a full flip. |
dc User ID: 1220521 Croatia 01/07/2011 06:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Is it true that the strength of the Earth's magnetic field is decreasing? What's the effect? Quoting: NiNzrezAt most places there has been a general decrease in the strength over the past century, typically ten percent or so. No one can say with any certainty whether this represents a fluctuation or whether it is a decrease which will eventually lead to a reversal. Some scientists theorize that some, if not all of the mass extinctions that have wiped out thousands of species of life on Earth might be correlated with magnetic reversals (1998) [link to www.scientificamerican.com] What causes the periodic reversals of the earth's magnetic field? Have there been any successful attempts to model the phenomenon? In addition, the computer model has produced three spontaneous reversals of the geomagnetic field during the 300,000-year simulation. So now, for the first time, we have three-dimensional, time-dependent simulated information about how magnetic reversals can occur (1999) [link to www.scientificamerican.com] Satellites Spy Changes to Earth's Magnetic FieldThough the process can take nearly 5,000 years, the earth's magnetic field periodically reverses. According to a report published today in Nature, scientists may have detected the beginning of the field's next such reversal. He cautions in a commentary accompanying the report that it remains too early to tell if the planet is in the early stage of a polarity reversal. "But the rapidly evolving reversed-flux patches suggest that an attempt at reversal may be under way," (2002) [link to www.scientificamerican.com] Headed South? How do navigators adjust to this change? The magnetic poles are far more restless. They move under the influence of the dynamo currents in the Earth's core, as well as electric currents flowing in the ionosphere, the radiation belts and the Earth's magnetosphere.
