Interesting note on Anthrax.......It lies for years in the soil, very common
in Africa
Who gets anthrax?
Anthrax is most common in agricultural regions where it occurs in animals.
These include South and Central American, Southern and Eastern Europe, Asia,
Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Anthrax rarely occurs in the
United States, but there have been reports in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi,
Oklahoma and South Dakota. When anthrax effects humans it is usually due to
an occupational exposure to infected animals, or their products. Workers who
are exposed to dead animals and animals products from other countries where
anthrax is more common may also be infected.
How is anthrax spread?
Anthrax spores can live in the soil for many years and humans can become
infected by handling animal products from infected animals, or by inhaling
anthrax spores from contaminated animal products. Anthrax can also be spread
by eating undercooked meat from infected animals. However, it is rare to
find infected animals in the United States. [link to www.cyberspaceorbit.com] |

Yes we never shouldīve sent over all those billions of dollars in aid, not to mention all the money weīve budgeted and are currently sending over there annually. In addition, we never shouldīve taken part in the recent G-8 summit and decided to forgive all of Africaīs debt. How could we be any more horrible to them?

Take it back a few years, Pickles.
You think history started the day you were born, I guess.
Egocentric little twit.
Anyway Kenton, even weaponized anthrax is destroyed when itīs exposed to sunlight, so I donīt think you need to worry about that. |

 | | Re: Sahara dust cloud, anthrax concern | Quote | Last time we had to deal with anthrax here in the hill country of Texas, was a couple years ago. This year there were a few ranches north of me that had a few cases. It happens to show up when you have a wet spell followed by a long dry spell. The animals that usually get anthrax intially eat close to the ground where the spores always are. I personally do not think the spores would be carried airborne that far.
My concern a couple years ago when we had an anthrax outbreak here was "what about mesquito bites? And horse flys?" CDC called me back, and I asked them. Even if there is an infected animal lying dead from anthrax, a mosquito can carry it in the blood it takes from the infected animal, but anthrax will only live for a very short while in the mosquito. If you live miles away, you canīt get it from that mosquito. If you had a dead infected animal in your yard and were standing feet away and got bit, you could catch anthrax. I doubt you could get it from this dust cloud in the air for that distance of travel. [link to www.cyberspaceorbit.com] |
