On 21st December 2010 coincides with a total lunar eclipse. This is the only lunar eclipse that will occur over this period of 36 years or so during which the winter solstice sunrise is directly aligned to the Galactic Centre. You are gettng caught up on the FLIP.. i never said it flips it doesnt. the CRUSt detaches from the mantle and becomes free to move. Depending on how much ice are at the poles iand other factors allow an equalization to occur. the crust slips on the mantl by degrees. the axis stay the same. maybe you need a little more reseraching. i been at this for over a decade.

and when a dipole motor is struck with lighting, it spins the other way... the reason why the core is changing pole is to renew the magnetopshere and is slowing down.. i dont know here you use your termanology but you will have to come a little harder.

Haven't the magnetic poles been shifting since the Earth's been around? Can anyone tell me why this current shifting is any different?

The polar caps have been moving since the dawn of time, this isnt new. The only thing NEW here is MSM is now trying to use it to scare people which probably means someone wants to bring in a "polar cap saving tax" and "Patriot Act III Magnetic update"!!!

I can answer that. Its different because this time its on FOX and this time they want you to be scared, after all 2012 is coming and its time to scare peple with pole shifting since global warming isnt working anymore.

What a peice of crap news article. No mention was made of the normal deviation of magnetic north from grid north (1/2 a degree every 5 years last time I checked) and if the change that had to be made for the runway navigation was ABNORMAL or not.

Is the deviation increasing? If so is this increase cause for alarm? Those are the important questions.

Earth's magnetic field is caused by the core rotating, generating a field just like a dynamo.

To reverse the magnetic poles, you reverse the direction of rotation of the core.

This would of course drag the crust above it - earthquakes, etc.

Don't know why the core should slow down and reverse. Maybe it gets a kick start from solar CMEs now and then.

Hi Sickscent - long time no hear, Happy New Year! Sorry for not being around, I'm still in Bavaria with family and hardly online - some interesting threads these days, lots of different stuff happening. This is amazing - interesting times eh? :)

Check out the transcript on the PBS documentary, there is very strong evidence that the magnet field record changed six degrees a day, that's ninny degrees in a month.

YES and this is no different.
whether its magnetic poles or magnetic fields they are not static, they change over long periods of time.
Same with climate and weather patterns.
