magnetic declination has been shifting WEST at about 0ne degree every five years That airport just repainted to correct for a 10 degree shift. How old is the airport? If it has been there 50 years or since 1960 it is normal.

What it does do, is desalinate the oceans and move or stop the jet stream which in turn, changes the weather patterns.

I personally think this has something to do with why all those bees were dying or flying away confused from their hives and not returning.

Funny... I've been working at the same job, testing electronic compasses (magnetometers) for 6 years and haven't ever had to re-align our compasses to magnetic north. (San Jose CA area.)

Also... People using our sensors have a correction factor that they can enter to compensate for the MAGNETIC DECLINATION (which is the difference in degrees between true and magnetic north). I suppose you could look up past Magnetic Declinations and see how much it has changed. Though we would have certainly noticed it by now.

So what's all the fuss about? Can someone show me some real data?

I suppose that Mag. N. has drifted 10 deg. over 30-40 years. But nobody mentions the time frame.

The ratio of MELTED snow and ice, converting to the total volume of water, ON LAND, to the total volume of all the oceans on Earth that will absorb the extra water is almost invalid.

The ice and snow OVER WATER? Fill a glass with ice, then water right to the brim and let it melt. Guess what? There will be slightly LOWER water level in the glass.

Then again, wherever the poles will shift to will gain all that snow and ice that comes from the clouds formed by ocean evaporation.

As a result, the Earth resembles something of a giant magnet with two poles: magnetic north and magnetic south. The magnetic poles don't line up with the geographic ones, and the difference between them is an angle called declination. As if this wasn't enough of a nuisance for navigators, the Earth's magnetic field drifts, causing the angle of declination to change over time.

In fact, it drifts about one-fifth of a degree a year at lower latitudes, such as Florida. "So that means if you wait five years, the compass will be off by one degree," Love said.

Since when do the magnetic poles need to align with the geographical?
Are you all ignorant of the physical world and believe that you phantasies are real?

It never goes to zero, just gets piss roiling drunk, knocks over the dining table, pisses in your refrigerator, brakes your shrubs falling head over heels a few times, then wake up in the next morning in the ditch finally right side up with one hell of a hangover only to find the neighbors dog has pissed on him and the other drunk took all his pocket change...

I leave you to figure out the metaphors...

It doesn't need to go to "zero". It can still be dangerously low.

Relax folks, while certainly unsettling - this is the MAGNETIC pole we're talking about. Where the compass points, OK? This is *NOT* the pole of the axis the planet spins around.

All that a magnetic pole reversal would mean is navigation problems. Animal migration issues (imagine that, huh?) and the complete mucking up of a LOT of high-tech stuff like the GPS system.

This is NOT repeat *NOT* going to cause a world-wide catastrophe, such as would indeed be the case if the planets axis shifted.

Two totally different and actually largely unrelated things.

I say BS, my compass is still giving me the same exact reading as it did three years ago, unless of course my house is moving right along with the magnetic north pole.

Aren't the magnetic poles and with them the earth axis lined up in a way towards the sun ?

Isn't this logic to create a magnetic field lined up towards the sun shielding the earth against CME's ?

Wouldn't that make a difference if the magnetic shield moves to one side while the earth is facing still the same position to the sun ?

Isn't it logic that necessarily the axis needs to align at one point with the magnetic field in order to face the sun in alignment with his magnetic poles and protection ?

Serious investigation shows that this alarmist announcement is greatly overblown.

The magnetic shift and rate of the pole movement at this time is natural and ongoing.

What will be significant is if and when the magnetic polar continuity becomes disrupted as a polar shift occurs and the field collapses. As in the past this would manifest as a collection of random and false polar regions evidenced around the globe -- this is the precursor of a magnetic pole shift resulting in reversal.

If you enjoy worrying, cast your attention to the phenomena of equatorial bulge--it is growing and is storing uncountable volumes of polar ice melt water. If it reaches a tipping point--wham!
