I have no doubt it's the case with a lot of female singers too. I also find it so strange that nearly every famous pop singer does duets with certain other 'artists'. Almost like they have no choice in the matter.

What bugs me the most though are the ones marketed as 'punk' or 'edgy' when they are singing the same shitty pop music or their image is just as pre-fabricated as Britney Spears, just that their stylist puts them cooler clothes.
