Meats can be freezer stored much longer if you vacuum seal them....btw food saver is running a great sale on vacuum sealer.....I got mine for 24 dollars shipped....check their site.....
I'll never go without one again! I use mine almost daily. I cooked up a butt roast last week on sale, after it was cold, sliced it and using the kitchen scale put portions into sandwich bags, quick freeze, then seal in a large sealer bag. I always have meals to eat, and a large variety!
Just checking: You freeze before sealing it in the bag?
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1223872It depends on what it is. I just put the remainder of the chicken I fried on one of those silicone pads, when frozen, will add it to the bag I was filling last night. I allow enough bag to open, then reseal. The butt roast, yes, it had de-fatted juice added into each little sandwich bag.It made 16 portions, 3 oz each, which is all I need. Husband of course I would take out more! Grated acorn squash makes a delicious pie, grated zuccinni makes dynamite chocolate cake! I use the pulse when I don't want a tight seal, like with cinnamon buns.
