Quoting: Magnetotardit' completely confused my friend said he's never seen anything like it, unlike birds that hit a window this one was walking around in circles etc It's the magnetic fields again, it can't navigate Recent studies also suggest birds sense the magnetic field via sight. Somehow there vision is altered acording to magnetic alignment by the use of Crypto-something? in their beaks. So it is my theory these birds are blinded temporarily. Since the Mag Field effects vision, a sudden change that is beyong normal could induce a blinding flash to the bird. Just like we are blinded by daylight when we are in a dark room for a lifetime. If the birds lived generation after generation never having to experience this intense amgnetic changes, they will have sensitivety with in normal limits. Anything outside the normal limits would be blindingly bright. |

"Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace." NAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! so we get the truth Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1079058We won't get the truth. These birds are hit by something in the sky that causes disorientation and then a fall to earth. Most are bruised and bleeding internally, which scientists deem the cause of death. It's not the cause; it's the after-effects. It's very sad to me. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1210521 United Kingdom 01/09/2011 01:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nice Pics. > The leaves are green because they are probably "privet" an evergreen hedging shrub. The magpie overall looks "healthy" not dischevelled like a diseased bird often looks. Point to note, I have found several dead magpies (yorkshire) however, the heavy snows and lack of refuse collection caused MANY rats to be out in the open in day time looking for food. My local store quickly sold out of rat poison. Magpies are scavengers and LOVE road kill. I reckon the local birds have been feasting on poisoned rats. Thanks again for the pics. |

Nightshade User ID: 599165 United Kingdom 01/09/2011 01:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My neighbour knocked on my door a few days ago because he came home and found a Waxwing on his doorstep. He threw it into the air in his back garden to try and persuade it to fly but it just made it over the fence onto a low branch of my Cherry tree. I just walked up to the tree and lifted it off. He took it home to nurse it. I had never seen a waxwing before and had to look it up as neither of us knew what it was. Very pretty, no obvious trauma but not able or wanting to fly. |

Yup, I looked twice to make sure I wasn't mistaken but it was defiantly wood pigeons. Of course if something is making birds flock and they're dying from blunt force trauma then maybe they're simply flying into each other. |
