I'm naive about this EXIF thing, definitely going to learn more about it as I'm not comfortable with the knowledge that pics I post to the net can pinpoint the exact location of its origin. Like if someone just wants to share a picture with a friend and doesn't know they are broadcasting their location to everyone else who happens to view it. |

I knew birds have been falling from the sky, I knew people/scientists are interested to learn about any new cases, so, I took photos of this bird and I examined it too, then I txt'ed my mate to tell him omg this bird just fall out of the sky in front of me, as he knows all about this freakish phenomenon too, and he said can I post it onto GLP, I said yeah sure, so he did. Just glancing through the comments now coz I just got home, 'the leaves are too green this can't be January'? And I thought I was paranoid! hehe, anyway, just look at the geo-tag I took these photos in my home street with my iPhone, I've not been home since I took them since this second, I send them to my mate over 3G straight from my phone, so the tags should still be there, you can date and locate the pics from those. The bird fell straight out of the sky it didn't seem to come from anywhere near any windows, it was going around in circles like it was trying to get its bearings back, the bird let me right near it, I could even touch it, which is COMPLETELY unusual and unique for a wild bird. I took photos of it because I wanted to add this bird to the google map tracking thingy people have been doing to document all these cases, and I took loads of pics (not all of them have been posted here) because maybe scientists can notice things I wouldn't notice. I picked the bird up I examined it, wings seemed normal, eyes seemed normal it was very awake, legs normal, everything normal, but the bird was kind of stupified not really caring that I was there, it was so totally preoccupied by trying to get it's bearings. I guess it is such a freaky thing for a bird to suddenly become blind in this way so it was trying to get it's coordination back again, or, it was ill or poisoned or had been smashed by something (a plane?), I have no idea, all I could do was look at the bird, spread his wings, and take photos, all of which I did and to my un-trained eye all seemed normal, yet the bird was behaving in a way which couldn't be more un-normal! So it was weird. I have no idea what was up and I have no idea if this is in any way what so ever related to the recent birds falling out of the sky phenomena, but, it's close enough that it merits documentation, so, I did my best to document it. I have added the case to the google map thingy, and also I emailed the case including all photos, to the science authority in my country. The bird seemed to know what he was doing, so I left him to do whatever it was he was trying to do, and I carried on my merry way to the cinema, where I saw The Kind's Speech, it's really good, I can really recommend it :-) Last Edited by Hacky on 01/09/2011 06:42 PM |

Looks like oil slick rainbow or something, but it's not oil at all it's just the colours, it's amazing, never seen one so up close, because obviously usually you can't, so this was quite amazing to me, such a shame the bird was fucked up :-( but I felt honoured to have been able to see it so up close none the less. He threw it into the air in his back garden to try and persuade it to fly but it just made it over the fence onto a low branch of my Cherry tree. I just walked up to the tree and lifted it off. On the videos of the big bird kills, they showed that not all birds died. Again, there was one wandering around in circles, not wanting or able to fly. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1224082  Australia01/09/2011 08:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In photos 1,2 & 3,the bird is fluffed up or balled up if you will which indicates one of two things to me:- A-It's starting to fall asleep (which is obviously not the case here-time of day etc) OR B-The bird feels sick and disorientated The bird seems to be recovering quickly in photo 4 as the fluffed up,stunned look has gone and also note that it is standing up properly and not sitting on it's body with it's legs pointing out sideways as in photos 1,2 & 3. Whatever affected this bird seems to have only been temporary but at the same time,very disorientating and confusing to the animal (like it's brain has been temporarily affected). Beautiful Magpie by the way (and these birds are VERY intelligent too).Could be,the more intelligent of the species are being affected first? |

Mine are as green as can be and it's FREEZING out there. That is a beautiful bird! What have people said about birds being born out of season? My parents feed birds and the squirrels come around and for the past few weeks they've had this really small squirrel. Dad thinks it's a baby...which would be really weird in January. Mom thinks it's a dwarf or something. ???? Today I was at their house, sitting there, all was quiet, I looked over and a cardinal flew up to the window, sort of hovered, and then slammed itself into the house!!! It didn't stun it....it flew off. But it was really strange! The window is under a big awning over the porch. Birds do come up there sometimes...normally not cardinals...but it was weird how it stopped and then just slammed itself into the house like that. Not the window...next to the window. |
