Re: Queensland floods continue - Getting worse - Check out the video
it stopped raining today, but the river level in Brisbane is rising towards its peak, sometime early tomorrow morning.

Evacuations seem orderly and people are pulling together. Today, thousands of people near the river's edge in Brisbane watched hundreds of expensive boats, pontoons, and other debris being washed down the swollen river. There was even a restaurant torn from the banks floating intact, down the river pass astonished crowds. The river is going to rise a lot more before it peaks, breaking new records on all levels.

Already it has flooded tens of thousands of homes and businesses.

Meanwhile the wet weather has moved south, causing extensive flooding in northern NSW, where thousands are being evacuated there.

Ditto even further to the south in Victoria.

Hundreds of thousands of people have no electricity, and most of those being evacuated in Brisbane might have to wait days before they can get back in.

Still around 50+ missing, half of those are basically assumed to have been washed away in cars, houses and the general torrent.

The damage is expected to go well past that caused by Hurricane Katrina - and its not over yet.

The size of the declared disaster zones in the state of Queensland alone, is an area bigger than France+Spain+Germany combined.

It is literally, an unimaginable scenario.

PS: The Wivenhoe Dam peaked last night at 191%, and has dropped to around 190% last I heard, so they can ease back the controlled discharges a bit.

What about dam?

bump
 Quoting: Vita 1219366

The dam story is a bit of an exaggeration. They are saying that once it is full, they won't be able to hold the water back from flowing down into to Brisbane.

They do not mean that the wall can't hold the water and will break. They mean that it is designed to hold a certain amount, and then any more over that will just flow over the dam, and will they have no control over it. Meaning, they cannot control the release of water to fit in with tides, or hold water back when the river below is at flood levels.

There is always a chance that anything made man can collapse. But the story has been a beat up, and so we hope that it does not happen.

Yeah you are right mabey Runaway Bay wasn't there I was surprised to read that Hope Island was I thought it was a man made island. Im a little shakey but im ok it's not raining right now so im hoping it will stop. Im going to stay pinned to the telly all night I felt sick for those ppl who lost their kids today so sad. Yea it's just me and my son I know my neighbours they are all friendly i spek to them regulary so if anytihng happened we would all get together im sure. Mabey I'll bum a ride on one of those super yacts on soverign island lol.

Thanks for your concern your really nice if the water gets us i might pay you a visit lol. There are still no warnings as yet but what worried me is the wivenhoe spillage i dont know if that'll affect all the way down here though?

No worries. Hopefully we won't meet floating around in the water! Maybe we should go and hijack one of those yatchs now, before the water comes.

We should be safe from the flood waters coming towards Brisbane. I think our danger is from rain predicted for here and tweed. It has stopped at the moment, so hopefully it will pass us by and go out to sea.

Thans I feel a little better now I wonder if this has anything to do with the solar maximum because on the news they have ben saying this breaks all records ever and they cant understand thos weather it dosen't make sense. Along with the massive amount of snow in the UK and the birds and fish dropping dead all over the world im starting to think the sun has something to do with all of this.

Looks like the GLP affect saved us and our suburbs. Not a drop of rain during the night! Take care.

The earth changes is how I like to view it. Or, as the ancestral spirits of Australia used to refer to it when telling me stuff, the 'changeover'. We will all need our wits about us to survive into the future, as we will have plenty of new and unusual things thrown at us, not just the weather problems.

Hopefully it has moved to another part of the country. It was good to have some local doom. And the big cleanse still has to occur, before the new can be born.

a little bit of perspective needs to be given when people mention that the disaster area is the size of Germany, France and Spain together.

there are only 21 million people living in Australia. Most of those in the capital cities.

There is 62 million in France alone.

So the area affected is large, but no where near the amount of human casualties that you would expect.
