* FIRST AMENDMENT ALERT*
Pennsylvania Rep. Robert Brady, a Democrat from Philadelphia, told CNN that he also plans to take legislative action. He will introduce a bill that would make it a crime for anyone to use language or symbols that could be seen as threatening or violent against a federal official, including a member of Congress.

Re: * FIRST AMENDMENT ALERT*
Just another small step towards total control. It may pass it may not. No representative should feel comfortable trying to violate our rights to speech.

Threatening is a subjective term. I'd like to see most members of our government "threatened" with being ousted in favor of more liberty minded candidates in the next elections.

See. It may have different language making my previous statement seem outlandish. However after only a few years minor changes to that law, or regulations covered under that law could make that previous statement a stark reality.

True...I think OP's point is...they always use an event, a crisis of somesort to further their agenda.

While it IS a great tragedy over the deaths and attempted murder of a this congresswoman, we should not lose any of our rights. I know the bill introduces SOUNDS like it is protecting public officials, but these kinds of things NEVER turn out to be in the best interests of the public. Never.

It was already illegal to threaten somebody. This is an extra new law to blend the line to make it so anyone speaking at all can be construed as threatening.

To " use language or signs which could be seen as..:"

Seen by whom and interpreted by whom? Is calling for protest a crime under this? Is being anti Government in your viewpoint then a crime? Threatening what? Arrest, jail (which is where most belong) is that going to be a crime now?

You get the point i think....
