But in my view (btw you have no idea where I am from, you just know where I am as I type this) though I may not choose to clap and scream my appreciation for thwe message at a memorial, I respect how other people choose to express themselves. In some churches, grief and sorrow is expressed through song, screaming and clapping. In some it is expressed through silence. Who are any of us to judge how others express grief and agreement with words spoken at a memorial. And why is that even an issue? Do you honestly think Christina would mind? But that is besides the point. How about listening to the message of hope and unity instead of desperately look for more ways to find fault and deepen the division. It is apparently very important to you to keep finding reasons to jeer, mock, disregard and disrespect our president and the people that support him. It is your right to do so, but how about finding a productive way of improving America instead? Or do you really feel that you are making a positive difference? |

I kept thinking of the family and their awful loss and this was more like a political rally. Just no decorum at all. Having said that, I did think President Obama, who I am no great fan of, did a wonderful job and was not responsible for the tone of the event. His comments were dignified and seemed to be heartfelt. He seemed uncomfortable with the cheering. I couldn't take my eyes off the father of the little girl, he just looked like a broken soul, yet the cheering continued. This is not a typical situation, not a typical event, not a typical response. Truth Is God's Daughter - Spanish Proverb. "Silence Is Treason" Geert Wilders |

He had her mother, father and brother (Dallas) on right after the memorial. The family almost seemed like actors, and the mother gave several irritated looks at the husband during the interview. Her brother also seemed to be perfectly content. And I didn't notice them once at the Memorial when the camera was panning into the victims family. Was kind of weird |

He spoke at length about the victims, and how America can honor their sacrifice by living up to the hopes of a child that lost her life. Quoting: becc 1228221Please, all of you, can you for just one moment in your lives stop. Take a step back and honor the dead and wounded. Please in the name of America that we all love, just for one day try to see the good in your fellow Americans. When many people are assembed in a large auditorium, the only way to show appreciation for what is being said is through applause. When respect for the dead and love of nation is called upon, to applaud is not cheering at the president as a person, but as a support for the message and the words. And the message and words were of grief for the fallen, support for the hurt and respect for the every day heroes that saved others that day. And the words were of unifying all Americans to look forward to a hopeful tomorrow, and the future that our children dream of. Obama is tearing this country apart. He is shredding the COnstitution and the rule of law. He, IMO, is responsible. |

Quoting: 808baitThe families were clapping along with everyone through the entire thing. This wasn't a FUNERAL it was a MEMORIAL. The definition of memorial is "intended as a reminder of a person or event or as a celebration of somebody's life and work". It is supposed to be a CELEBRATION of the lives of those people lost. I can understand everyone being upset at people for clapping and whistling during a funeral, but at a huge memorial service, especially one where the president is also thanking those who saved lives, I think clapping and whistling is appropriate. Don't forget, they are also there to honor the heroes and those who are still fighting for their lives too. I thought the person screaming "Obama we love you" at the beginning was distasteful too, but it wasn't Obama's fault. It was just a small group of what seemed like college kids who were caught up in the moment and didn't make a good decision. There are people who are going to be dumb and disrespectful in all situations. In fact, the same thing happened when Bush spoke at Ground Zero. People were screaming his name and chanting while he stood at the actual site where people lost their lives, and some bodies were yet to be found. [link to www.youtube.com] People seriously have such short memory spans. "At a time when we are far to eager to lay the blame on all that ails the world at the feet of those who happen to think differently than we do, it's important to pause for a moment and make sure we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds." One of the most important things he said in his speech and everyone seems to completely overlook it to argue over the fact that they think someone screaming "Obama" out of excitement is more important. |
