You read the article. These were LIVE CAUGHT ADULTS. No one would have fed them any of those foods. They were wild caught bird whose first opinion of humans is having a net thrown over you. Have some starbucks and apple seeds? Something else, has to be. Air pressure loss perhaps. They were used in mines due to their advanced respiration anatomy. Unlike mammals who are "2 stroke" breathers all birds are "4 stroke breathers" They get so much more oxygen (and everything else) out of the air this way.
