House Bill 633: Idaho Silver Gem Act

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

RS19520C1

"This legislation provides for the State Treasurer to accept an Idaho manufactured silver medallion and bar for the payment of fees and taxes. First the State Treasurer will sell these silver medallions and bars to the public at their market value tied to the daily market price of the U.S. Mint’s one troy, bullion style, silver American Eagle. This silver American Eagle will also be accepted by the Treasurer for the payment of fees and taxes. The medallion and bars will be designed by the medallion committee of legislators already referenced in Idaho Code at 671223(3). The initial
funds to begin this program may come from presales of medallions and bars, from grants or from the General Fund."

Utah and Virginia have similar proposals. I'm just saying.

Good for them !!! This is exactly what all states need to do. I can see the Federal government and the fed throwing their "hissy fit" already.

Doesn't the Constitution say that only Congress can coin money ? OH WELL... since when does this republic follow the Constitution ? LOL

I know of some towns that have made up their own currency for local shoppers. Seems to be working well in small communities.

We just HAVE to get out from under this "fake" money scam we've been in for so long.

When the other states collapse, Idaho can buy them up as investments and convert them to the new currency -- the Spud.

I always liked their independent spirit, but who knew they were closet geniuses?

Agreed! I myself own a decent amount of silver bullion. I heard about some states adopting things like this. Doesn't a state out east print its own money now as well?

My current state of Virginia is one of the 3 I know of so far. Utah being the third. There are various cities thought the US that have started their own, but this is it as far as states go.

I'm not sure what will come of it, but I haven't heard any of this anywhere, even here locally in one of the states proposing legislation. You'd think that it would be big news for any journalist to get their hands on...

The only thing I would be short right now is paper silver. Physical is what's in demand. Avian linked me to the Zero Hedge article earlier that had already been put together on the US Mint and their record breaking sales.

The US Constitution says:

[link to www.archives.gov]
---
No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.
---

Thus, the states are prohibited from treating paper notes as legal tender.

But it looks like they can't coin their own as well, so I see a Catch-22 in that when none is available, they can't legally fill the void themselves...

I'm still waiting for them to start paying for Jury Duty with something shiny, and not Fed debt-paper.

"to accept an Idaho manufactured silver medallion"

"This silver American Eagle will also be accepted by the Treasurer "

So If you have Non Idaho silver medallions or Non American Eagle silver will they reject the silver completely?
