Bull Sharks swimming down main street of flooded Queensland town -- 30km from coast
Bull sharks spotted swimming down the main street in Goodna - 30km from the coast

January 14, 2011

"TWO bull sharks have reportedly been spotted swimming down the main street of a flooded Queensland town, 30km inland.

Butcher Steven Bateman spotted two bull sharks swimming near his Goodna shop yesterday - one of several reports of a sharks in Goodna's main street.

Ipswich local councillor Paul Tully confirmed it was a bizarre but true story out of Queensland's flood disaster.

"It would have swum several kilometres in from the river, across Evan Marginson Park and the motorway,'' Cr Tully told The Queensland Times.

"It's definitely a first for Goodna, to have a shark in the main street..."

My parents told me to never ever, under any circumstance swim in the Brisbane river. Most kids taught the same. In the 1970's there were heaps of sharks because the meat-works used to sometimes dump straight into the river.

Like all sharks they like salt water...bull sharks seemed to have developed a gland that allows them to survive in fresh water as well.

nasty 10 foot 700lbs killing machines.

People spot the odd croc from time to time about 200km north of Brissy. 400km north at Rockhampton crocs are slightly more common than rare, floodwaters are finally receding there now. They used to range as far south as northern NSW during the convict days.

Generally referred to as "beer" but thank you :)

BRISBANE'S iconic XXXX Brewery may be under water, but staff assure Queenslanders they won't let the state run dry.

``The good news is the beer is kept in a warehouse at Hendra, which did not flood,'' Ms Sutton said.

Well you can shoot a shark near the surface.

That reminds me of something that happened in Sydney harbour back in the 1960's. There used to be this dolphin that swam around people on the weekends in a bay near Manly, until a freaked out father on a yacht whose kids were swimming shot it because he mistook it for a shark.
