BREAKING: UNIFIL Withdrawing from Israel-Lebanon Border Fearing Hostilities
I think this is a major development, pointing towards an outbreak of trouble.

"UNIFIL has reduced the scope of patrols in south Lebanon...

commanders in UNIFIL spoke with diplomats from their countries as well as officials in Beirut in order to guarantee their troops' safety."

[link to www.ynetnews.com]

The United Nations is reducing its presence in southern Lebanon following the impending political crisis: Lebanese daily al-Akhabar, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, reported Friday that UNIFIL forces have limited their patrols along the southern border with Israel, fearing a looming civil strife.

[link to www.ynetnews.com]

I have this news confirmed from other sources.

The term civil strife is either referring to factional fighting or Israeli action, or both. Withdrawing from the southern border points to intel with regards Israel, but that is a personal opinion.

I will keep digging.

I have just been told that the UN indictments are about to be made public. UNIFIL are also concerned that as part of the UN they may come under attack from angry supporters of Hezbollah, in addition to other major security concerns on the border.

Thanks for updating Janey

Usually not a good sign when the UN retreats I agree.

Also who within the no longer existing government of Lebanon is going to receive the indictment-reports from the SLT? And who needs to respond to them?

the indictments and reports go from the investigative branch of the STL to the judicial branch, i believe. the lebanese police (ISF) should, if lebanon is living up to its pledge of cooperation, execute on the indictments by apprehending the named accused. i'd appreciate any corrections/clarifications of my understanding of the procedure if anyone has any.

Re: BREAKING: UNIFIL Withdrawing from Israel-Lebanon Border Fearing Hostilities
Nasrallah: 'There won't be a civil war in Lebanon, because we'll kill anyone who gets in our way'

Hezbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah gave one of his lengthy, televised speeches on Thursday night, and promised that there would be no civil war in Lebanon.
The Hezbollah leader said he was sure there would be no civil conflict between Shiites and Sunnis in Lebanon.

But why would there be no civil conflict?

Nasrallah blamed Hariri for the current political crisis.
Hariri met with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington on Wednesday and held talks in France and Turkey on Thursday.
Nasrallah called on Hariri to stay abroad and not return to Lebanon.

Thx Swinburnian!

Also I guess it is reasonable to think that 'officials' & diplomates don't need to get the news on the indictments from the press. So, if it all about to get public the outcome is likely to be known already with the topdogs.

If so the scale back of the UN at the border is even more troublesome IMO.

But I hope I'm wrong. I have family and friends in Israel and I care for their safety.

As for Gaia's of course ;-)

That's what happens when you get fired. Same as a 'no-confidence' vote in Canada, a election after the party elects a new leader for the party. He could have avoided this by allowing the Gov to operate as the opposition requested, simple as that. If he wasn't to traipsing around other countries and ignore his own people why should he hold any position.

How pro west would he be if it was shown that Mossad and the US were the killers of his father. A fact he probably already knows and this current course of his is what has been keeping him and his family alive.

Right, it's all a huge conspiracy to blame the peace loving and peace making Hezbollah. They couldn't possibly of killed, murdered, or assassinated anyone.. it's just not like them at all. (end of sarcasm if you missed it)

Amazing, you are one of the very few who actually knows what is going on and who killed Hariri.

His death was a major gain for USA/UK/Israel. By accusing Syria they forced Syria to leave Lebenon and now they are accusing someone else instead and forgetting about who they accused before.

Don't know if it has anything to do with making the indictments public, but there is a public hearing going on right now at the Tribunal
