Do you either study earthquakes, or suffer from headaches/dizziness? I need your help!
I need your help testing a theory.

I have been studying the headache reports I was given in google earth. In an alternate thread, I speculated that the likely cause was alternobaric vertigo, however, what was causing the pressure was undefined (I had assumed weather).

However, after studying earthquake reports and the headache locations, there appears to be a matching pattern between headaches and earthquakes.

But this is just a theory, and I need your help testing it.

The data (headache locators) I have are out of date and can't be used to test this theory.

So I need your help, this is how it works:

People with headaches/dizziness
[This is only if you have current headaches/dizziness]

In your post;
Note the symptoms you have - as in-depth as possible.
The region you are currently located in (please define county to make this more accurate)

People who study/monitor earthquakes

Pick one region (defined by the people with headaches above)
In your post;
Write what region you've picked (so others don't have to monitor it)
Monitor that region for between 1-8 days.
If an earthquake occurs in or near that region, report it, and if nothing happens, report nothing happened.

Aim:
In short, I've noticed those with headaches with the dizziness/vertigo symptoms have earthquakes occur in the region, typically 2-4 days later (though it could be longer).

The aim of this is to see if it is true. And to see what key symptom is the defining factor, if any. The USGS earthquake monitoring system is very difficult and slow to check such a wide area single handedly and accurately, and many hands make light work.

Thank you for any posts and effort put in!

To clarify this part;

You post one post noting the region you are going to monitor.

Then later post another denoting the results.

I live in Illinois, USA. I did not sleep well the night that Aurora, Illinois got struck at 6 am with a minor earthquake a few weeks after the Haiti earthquake last year.

For this earthquake in New Zealand on Monday, Feb 21, 2011 - I was very dizzy the night before on Sunday. My space and depth perception was off, like dropping spoons on the counter, rather than into bowls. I'm stil slightly dizzy now, but much better than Sunday Feb 20, 2011.

I never had this until the Chile quake. Now I notice unexplained dizzy feeling, as if on a boat almost, at random times. Like a ride where you are momentarily weightless, or like being on a raft floating. Later, I find there was a significant quake somewhere.
I can't figure how this works when I am in California???

Re: Do you either study earthquakes, or suffer from headaches/dizziness? I need your help!
I have suffered with migraines since about age 8. Over the last 6 years, I've had a continuous headache that gets better and worse, but never leaves me. Friday, March 11, following Japan's 8.9, I was feeling super dizzy. I chalked it up to dehydration or exhaustion and moved on. Saturday and Sunday I continued to feel dizzy. Monday I nearly passed out. Tuesday, no matter what I took, my head and knee were killing me. Wednesday was the dizziest day yet. Not sure how this is possible since I'm in Los Angeles. However, with a very sensitive nervous system, the moon at full traction, tectonic plates shifting, and the axis slightly shifting, perhaps it's not out of the question.

Re: Do you either study earthquakes, or suffer from headaches/dizziness? I need your help!
Hi, yes I experience dizziness whenever there is an earthquake, up to 10 days before. I have lived on both west and east coasts of Australia while experiencing this. It seems to precede an event from the equator south into the pacific, out to Japan and south east asia and as far as South America. The first being about 10 years ago. Funny enough I am a migraine sufferer but both dont occur together, havent diarised this. A simple system I am using is to text message my husband when it happens and then we both have a record. The last one was today, lots of small little ones which is odd. Now if only I could pinpoint where it was to happen...

Felt like I was in a vibrating chair, a little light headed, I get motion sickness in moving vehicles and it started out that way. I from Pennsylvania quake in VA. and it's @4:39pm now. @4pmheadach, nauseous, off balance, eyes hurt like motion sickness, son looked up if headache could be from earthquake from 2:00pm earthquake and found it seems to be a real thing, not just me. Feeling better, seems to be dissipating, not a thing I want to experience again. Neck tense, breathing better, not feeling as nauseous but head is really hurting towards the front and around eyes. Going to take an aspirin now and see if it helps. Also get bad sinus headaches with weather change but thats different from motion sick feeling.

Re: Do you either study earthquakes, or suffer from headaches/dizziness? I need your help!
An earthquake occurred in Virginia today 8/23/2011. I am in NY on Long Island, Suffolk County. Not before but while the earthquake was happening I felt like my brain was going side to side in my head. I have never been in an earthquake before so initially I thought their was something medically wrong going on inside my head. As it turns out it was an earthquake and I am still feeling pain in my brain, eyes, face, a weird feeling in my head, 7 hours later.
The people in the room next to me at work did not even know we had an earthquake. This is puzzling to me. At 44 years old this is my first earthquake and now I know I am sensitive to them. I hope this helps.

Thanks, this gives me another explanation besides hot weather for the dizziness. Just realized I am not really dizzy since I left Colorado a couple weeks ago.

One of my guys in Atlantic City had a seriously weird headache.
Went away during the earthquake. We (45+ people) had vertigo right before it struck.

NE CT here. Yesterday, I was a passanger in a car on the road for most of the day and evening, was car sick.

Yesterday, had an intractable headache, sinus. Was rid of it during the night as I took medication specifically to address the sinus along with Advil.

I looked up earthquake and headache to see if there were any connection.

I have had very few headaches in my entire life. So when I had a severe headache thursday and the headache continued, though in a smaller scale, meanwhile the earthquakes has been intensifying here just below us in Frontera, El Hierro, Canary islands. Greetings. Muriel

Re: Do you either study earthquakes, or suffer from headaches/dizziness? I need your help!
In Jan. 2010 I started having migraines for long periods of time. Through lots of testing and medication we still have not been able to find what works for me. My migraines do occasionally change in nature but this last week has been unusually bad. A weather front came through about Thursday and I had blamed my problems Tue. & Wed. on that but then Friday was extremely bad... An earthquake happened Saturday morning (4.6) and another Saturday night (5.6) and the epicenter is about 20 miles from my house. I checked with my Aunt that lives nearby and her and her son also had a lot of problems this week, more than usual. I definitely believe there is a connection.

I have been very Dizzy with nausea since yesterday morning. It has the strong feeling of motion sickness, thru the eyes and the top of the head above the forhead. We had a 4.0 earthquake about an hour away from me yesterday in Youngstown, Ohio. I live in Columbiana County in a small city called Lisbon. I hope this can help you.

Thank you for those who contributed.

I am going to quickly inform you that headaches do indeed preclude earthquakes (they also preclude storms and occur during solar flares/activity):
[link to www.springerlink.com]

The headaches are caused by positive ions, which increase serotonin in the brain, that causes the blood vessels to expand.

You all have a serious problem if this is true:

I have both migraines and vertigo

but during the 2 years of continuous earthquakes in Chch, I didn't suffer from either

I had some serious vertigo issues again over the summer here but we had no earthquakes with it

I had some serious migraines in March and no EQs

no correlations for me
