True.

Unfortunately you do not know about the ethnogenesis of the German people. Instead you have been satisfied with being fed propaganda by the Slavic people who do not even know the proper ethnogenesis of their people. They think that they were in situ in the Baltic Areas during the periods before 300 A.D instead the Slavic people are fragments of peoples from Russia who were chased out of Russia as the Huns invaded and pushed them westward. Then the Slavs mingled in with Germanic, Roman, and Greek blood lines. The Germans kept the Slavs from entering into Germany and that is why the cut off line between the Germanic people and the slavs is in Poland.

The Germans are a mix of Celtic, Roman, and Germanic people who immigrated from Scandanavia. Overall the German bloodline is composed of background that has a long history in Europe such as the neolithic people which composes the Aplinic background of Germany, the Roman elements are remnants of Roman soldiers who married with German maidens in South and Central Germany. And the Northern Germans are more purely Germanic and the Germanic people of the north are related to the Thracians who immigrated from Iran where people such as the Assyrians, Mittani, and other Ayran people's lived. Also there is a connection between some of the Trojan Warriors who fled Troy or evidence that some immigrated to the far north of Germany although most moved to the more northern parts of Europe. The slavs have had no influence on the German people at all the Slavs are just a people that who were pushed out of Russia, Belrussia, and Ukraine during the 4th century A.D. and they are mixed of Hunnic, Mongolic, Roman, Graecian, and Germanic ancestry. Regardless if anything if anyone has had an influence on the other the Germanic people have influenced the Slavs and taught them their lessons.

Oh please.
I'm Irish and know my European history and I'm hardly going to fall for Slav "propaganda", when you're the one pushing German propaganda.
My reading of history is that we- and by that I mean the Celtic (not racial but cultural) people of Europe as a whole-kept you in quarantine in a relatively small area in the Baltic region.
Until you broke out after the Romans attacked northern Gaul.
The current debacle is the Romano German Empire in yet another of it's disgusting incarnations.
As for "purely German"-one of your cultural flaws is xenophobia related to incest related to inbreeding.
As in the magnificent specimens of superior humanity (being a tad sarcastic there) representede by the royal familes of Europe.
So called "aristocracy" my arse.

Slavic propaganda was pushed by many slavic nationalist who considered a theory of their ethnogenesis which was completely ridiculous and absurd. That is that the slavs originated in Poland and then pushed eastward when it was the complete opposite they originated in Russia, Belarussia, and Ukraine near where the Baltic people lived. And by the way the purest elements of Europe are Germanic and Roman because they are the only ones who actually built empire the Celts are up there to in purity as well they just never got to built an empire. When the Germanic-Romans unite once again that is when the world will have peace and unity.
 Quoting: GeistFauster

There has been some development in the years since your sources of history were seen as valid.

Here is the most complex contemporary explanation,
by an italian scholar, who is in effect critisizing also the slavic schollars, so your 'propaganda' claims are more of a projection of germanic propaganda than anything else. Some excerpts ( you are wellcome to read the whole text at the link given down below) :

Slavic ethnogenesis

while the concept of the Arian super-race gave shape to the myth of the Battle-Axe horse riding invaders, another myth, within the Arian larger myth, emerged: Pangermanism.
Within the Arian superior race, the German father-founders of IE studies preferred to see the Germanic people as the supermen, the purest and the closest to the original blessed race. This is also why the continental Germanic area for a long time was believed to be the Urheimat of the PIEs (Kossinna!).
In turn, the Pangermanic ideology and its political context gave rise to yet another important myth, the consequences of which are still dominating the field of IE studies: namely that of the extremely late arrival of the Slavs: if the Germanic people were the closest to the pure Arian race, then the Slavs must certainly be the farthest ones! Despite their enormous numbers (half of Europe is Slavic), the Slavs were thought of having hidden somewhere, magically leaving no archaeological trace whatsoever of their presence, until in the Middle Ages they unexplainably (and quite regretfully!) emerge and swarm over Eastern Europe…

(A) the Slavic area corresponds to almost half of Europe. As such it is the continent’s largest, and the only one that includes three climatic zones (sub- arctic, continental and Mediterranean) and almost all ecological zones: arctic, tundra, coniferous forest, mixed forest, steppe-forest, steppe, semi-desertic, Mediterranean, alpine.
(B) In spite of their huge extension, Slavic languages are much less differentiated than, for example, the Germanic or the Romance.

1 This section summarizes parts of the two chapters of my book (Alinei 2000) devoted to the Slavic area.

(C) Slavic languages have also a unique, asymmetric areal distribution: while Southern Slavic languages (Slovenian, Serbian, Croatian, Macedonian and Bulgarian) form a homogeneous bloc, sharing several common features, for Northern Slavic languages it is necessary to distinguish between a Western branch (including Czech, Sorbian and Polish), and an Eastern one (including Russian, Ucrainian and Belo-Russian), as each of the two branches shares different features with Southern Slavic.
An adequate theory of Slavic ethnogenesis will have to provide a satisfactory and coherent explanation for these three fundamental aspects of Slavic: enormous extension, extraordinary homogeneity, and areal asymmetry between South and North.

7.2The traditional theory of Slavic ethnogenesis
The old version of the traditional theory assumed, as is known, the ‘arrival’ of the Slavs
in historical times, following their alleged “great migration” in the 5th and 6th centuries
of our era, from an unknown area. It claimed that this is the reason for their large extension and phenomenal homegenity. Even though this radical thesis is now maintained only by a minority (represented by Schenker), its more recent, variously modified version, at present favoured by the majority of Slavists, does not differ substantially from it: for what is now admitted is simply the presence of the Slavs in the Bronze and Iron Age in a small area of Eastern Europe. So that the ‘arrival’ of the Slavs
is now placed eralier, i.e. in the Bronze or in the Iron Age, while the “great migration” would still have taken place in historical times. In short, ‘only’ the last, huge wave of the Slavic migration would be dated so recently.
Though – as we have seen in the preceding sections – the real cause for the assumption of such a short chronology for the origins of the Slavs lies in the ignorance
of some basic modern developments concerning both linguistics and other historical sciences

Now, from a geolinguistic point of view, there is just one explanation possible for this peculiar and transparent areal configuration: Southern Slavic must form the earlier core, while the two Northern branchings must be a later development, each with
its proper history and identity.
No other explanation is possible, unless one challenges the very raison d’etre of IE and Proto-Slavic reconstruction, besides common sense.
Needless to say, this simple remark demolishes the whole construction of the Slavic homeland in Middle Eastern Europe and of the Slavic migration in traditional terms, as well as all of its corollaries. But let us check the other two points, before developing it further within the framework of the PCT.

7.3.2The Slavic enormous expansion

The only evidence for a great migration of Slavs in historical times that traditional scholars can possibly claim lies in a literal reading of the mentions of medieval historians, such as the Thracian Priscus of Panion (5th century), the Greek Procopius of Cesarea (6th century) and the Goth Jordanes (6th century), or those of the Church (e.g. Conte 1990, 33-34). But it is quite evident that such mentions do not point unambiguously to an ‘invasion’ or ‘migration’ of Slavs, but can just as simply be taken
as to refer to pre-existing Slavs, the presence of which even traditional scholars now admit.
When, for example, John of Ephesos, bishop of Constantinopolis under Justinian
(527-65) mentions the innumerable raids into the Bizantine territori by “the damned people of the Slavs” he damns them because they were still pagan, and not because they are ‘arriving’! And when, in his De rebus Gethicis Jordanes describes the location of the Venedi, and writes that they inhabited the area “From the source of the Visla river and on incommensurable expanses”, he does not give the slightest indication of a recent arrival of theirs, but simply describes a statu quo.
And I challenge Slavic specialists to find any indication of a recent arrival of the Slavs in their area in other medieval sources.
Not only, but when earlier historians, living in the centuries preceding the supposed arrival of the Slavs, write that the population of the Carpatian Basin offered a drink called medos (Proto-Slavic medŭ ‘drink produced with honey”) the Byzantine ambassadors directed to the court of Attila (king of the Huns), and that a part of the funeral rituals for Attila’s death was called strava (medieval name of a Slavic funeral ritual), only a biased reader can find evidence in this for the “first infiltrations” of Slavs
in the Carpatian area, especially as they seem to have left not trace of their coming!
(Neustupný-Neustupný 1963, 196).

7.5.2The slight differentiation of Slavic languages and the demographic increase of Slavic people as consequences of the stability and the success of South-Eastern European Neolithic cultures
In contradiction with Renfrew’s main thesis, prehistorians of South-Eastern Europe never miss to underline that in most cases it is possible to ascertain the continuity of Neolithic cultures from Mesolithic (see further). Moreover, they remark that for a long time the two economies could have coexisted in the same area, as Mesolithic hunters and gatherers lived on the river and the lakes shores, on sand dunes or at the foot of mountains, avoiding precisely the löss plains that were chosen by farmers (Tringham
1971, 35). The synchronism and the complementarity of the two economies enhances thus the thesis of the linguistic unity of the area, and of its continuity from Mesolithic.
In the light of this consideraton we can then address the most conspicuous problems of the Slavic ethnogenesis, represented by the enormous span of their area, by the demographic density underlying it, and by the little differentiation of their languages. And we have already seen that it is impossible, without falling into flagrant contradictions, to attribute these aspects to a historical migration of the Slavs.
Within the PCT framework this problems, in all of its complexity, can easily be solved in total harmony with the archaeological record, simply by recalling the main features of Neolithic cultures of South-Eastern Europe. First of all, as it is known, the process of the neolithization of Europe began precisely in the Balkanic peninsula, first
in the Aegean area and then inland, in the middle of the 7th millennium. From here, in the course of about 2500 years, the new economy spread along the Danube, to reach Eastern and Central Europe by the 5th millennium b.C.

Re: Germans are most intelligent people in the world
Who could deny this statement? Its pretty much self evident. It is about as self evident as the fact that Americans are idiots and morons. They have done so many things for the world Germany and although people want to get all over them for WW2 that was but a small part of Germany's history. There have been so many geniuses in Germany's history it is virtually impossible to count them all. Starting from the 14th century onwards Germans was the center and heart of the world when it came to ingenuity and originality. Meister Eckhart, Albert the Great, Grimms Tales, Gutenberg's Printing Press, and Martin Luther. Later on in the 17th century after the political and social situation settled down in Germany after the reformation and 30 year's War Germany's intellectual tradition exploded into a brilliant array of the most brilliant minds known to mankind since the Ancient Greeks. They produced some of the greatest philosophers, mathematicians, artists, musicians, physicists, chemists, scientists, engineers, inventors, psychologists, and poets from the time of the early 18th century to the middle of the 20th century. Overall who can compare to names such as Goethe, Gauss, Beethoven, Kant, Wagner, Winklemann, Heisenberg, Herder, Benz, Liebig, Copernicus, Hegel, Schiller, Jung, and Einstein

Re: Germans are most intelligent people in the world

 Quoting: Richard Eldritch

Here s the original briton spirit.
Not very inventive actually but honest, proud of their ancient traditions and brave, similar to the germans of the time, bith being representative of the world beyond all known borders of the mediteranean cilization:

The person who was chiefly responsible in rousing the natives and persuading them to fight the Romans, the person who was thought worthy to be their leader and who directed the conduct of the entire war, was Buduica, a Briton woman of the royal family and posessed of greater intelligence than often belongs to women. 2c This woman assembled her army, to the number of some 120,000, and then ascended a tribunal which had been constructed of earth in the Roman fashion. 2d In stature she was very tall, in appearance most terrifying, in the glance of her eye most fierce, and her voice was harsh ; a great mass of the tawniest hair fell to her hips ; around her neck was a large golden necklace ; and she wore a tunic of divers colours over which a thick mantle was fastened with a brooch. This was her invariable attire. She now grasped a spear to aid her in terrifying all beholders and spoke as follows :

3a "You have learned by actual experience how different freedom is from slavery. Hence, although some amoung you may previously, through ignorance of which was better, have been deceived by the alluring promises of the Romans, yet now that you have tried both, you have learned how great a mistake you made in preferring an imported despotism to your ancestral mode of life, and you have come to realize how much better is poverty with no master than wealth with slavery. 3b "For what treatment is there of the most shameful or grievous sort that we have not suffered ever since these men made their appearance in Britain ? Have we not been robbed entirely of most of our possessions, and those the greatest, while for those that remain we pay taxes ? 3c "Besides pasturing and tilling for them all our other possessions, do we not pay a yearly tribute for our very bodies ? How much better it would be to have been sold to masters once for all than, possessing empty titles of freedom, to have to ransom ourselves every year ! How much better to have been slain and to have perished than to go about with a tax on our heads ! 3d "Yet why do I mention death ? For even dying is not free of cost with them ; nay, you know what fees we deposit even for our dead. Among the rest of mankind death frees even those who are in slavery to others ; only in the case of the Romans do the very dead remain alive for their profit. 3e "Why is it that, though none of us has any money (how, indeed, could we, or where could we get it?), we are stripped and despoiled like a murderer's victims ? And why should the Romans be expected to display moderation as time goes on, when they have behaved toward us in this fashion at the very outset, when all men show consideration even for the beasts they have newly captured ?

4a "But to speak the plain truth, it is we who have made ourselves responsible for all these evils, in that we allowed them to set foot on the island in the first place instead of expelling them an once as we did their famous Julius Caesar, - yes, and in that we did not deal with them while they were still far away as we deat with Augustus and with Gaius Caligula and make even the attempt to sail hither a formidable thing. 4b "As a consequence, although we inhabit so large an island, or rather a continent, one might say, that is encircled by the sea, and although we possess a veritable world of our own and are so separated by the ocean from all the rest of mankind that we have been believed to dwell on a different earth and under a different sky, and that some of the outside world, aye, even their wisest men, have not hitherto known for a certainty even by what name we are called, we have, notwithstanding all this, been despised and trampled underfoot by men who know nothing else than how to secure gain. 4c "However, even at this late day, though we have not done so before, let us, my countrymen and friends and kinsmen, - for I consider you all kinsmen, seeing that you inhabit a single island and are called by one common name, - let us, I say, do our duty while we still remember what freedom is, that we may leave to our children not only its appellation but also its reality. For, if we utterly forget the happy state in which we were born and bred, what, pray, will they do, reared in bondage ?

5a "All this I say, not with the purpose of inspiring you with a hatred of present conditions, - that hatred you already have, - nor with fear for the future, - that fear you already have, - but of commending you because you now of your own accord choose the requisite course of action, and of thanking you for so readily co-operating with me and with each other. 5b "Have no fear whatever of the Romans ; for they are superior to us neither in numbers nor in bravery. and here is the proof : they have protected themselves with helmets and breastplates and greaves and yet further provided themselves with palisades and walls and trenches to make sure of suffering no harm by an incursion of their enemies. For they are influenced by their fears when they adopt this kind of fighting in preference to the plan we follow of rough and ready action. 5c "Indeed, we enjoy such a surplus of bravery, that we regard our tents as safer than their walls and our shields as affording greater protection than teir whole suits of mail. As a consequence, we when victorious capture them, and when overpowered elude them ; and if we ever choose to retreat anywhere, we conceal ourselves in swamps and montains so inaccessible that we can be neither discovered nor taken. 5d "Our opponents, howeer, can neither pursue anybody, by reason of their heavy armour, nor yet flee ; and if they ever do slip away from us, they take refuge in certain appointed spots, where they shut themselves up as in a trap. 5e "But these are not the only respects in which they are vastly inferior to us : there is also the act that they cannot bear up under hunger, thirst, cold, or heat, as we can. They require shade and covering, they require kneaded bread and wine and oil, and if any of these things fails them, they perish ; for us, on the other hand, any grass or root serves as bread, the juice of any plant as oil, any water as wine, any tree as a house. 5f "Furthermore, this region is familiar to us and is our ally, but to them it is unknown and hostile. As for the rivers, we swim them naked, whereas they do not get across them easily even with boats. Let us, therefore, go against them trusting boldly to good furtune. Let us show them that they are hares and foxes trying to rule over dogs and wolves."

6a When she had finished speaking, she employed a species of divination, letting a hare escape from the fold of her dress ; and since it ran on what they considered the auspicious side, the whole multitude shouted with pleasure, and Buduica, raising her hand toward heaven said : 6b "I thank thee, Andraste, and call upon thee as woman speaking to woman ; for I rule over no burden-bearing Egyptians as did Nitocris, nor over trafficking Assyrians as did Semiramis (for we have by now gained thus much learning from the Romans!), 6c "much less over the Romans themselves as did Messalina once and afterwards Agrippina and now Nero (who, though in name a man, is in fact a woman, as is proved by his singing, lyre-playing and beautification of his person) ; nay, those over whom I rule are Britons, men that know not how to till the soil or ply a trade, but are well versed in the art of war and hold all things in common, even children and wives, so that the latter possess the same valour as the men. 6d "As the queen, then, of such men and of such women, I supplicate and pray thee for victory, preservation of life, and liberty against men insolent, unjust, insatiable, impious, - if, indeed, we ought to term those people men who bathe in warm water, eat artificial dainties, drink unmixed wine, anoint themselves with myrrh, sleep on soft couches with boys for bedfellows, - boys past their prime at that, - and are slaves to a lyre-player and a poor one too. 6e "Wherefore may this Mistress Domitia-Nero reign no longer over me or over you men ; let the wench sing and lord it over the Romans, for they surely deserve to be the slaves of such a woman after having submitted to her so long. But for us, Mistress, be thou alone ever our leader."

7a Having finished an appeal to her people of this general tenor, Buduica led her army against the Romans

I've been researching European history for a long time from the perspective of my Irish background.
This material fits.
I had a Polish workmate several years ago whho was brought up in a remote region of rural Poland and described feast day celebrations very much like those still practiced in Ireland, and obviously of "pagan" origin.
As you point out the history of Europe has been distorted, at least until recently when linguistics are providing the evidence lost otherwise.
And I've always found it amusing that the English claim Bouddica as one of their heroes.
And Arthur which is even funnier.

Slavic and Celtic Folklore: Heroic, Spiritual, Practical

Spring quarter

Faculty: Sean Williams ethnomusicology, Patricia Krafcik Russian language and literature

Fields of Study: anthropology, cultural studies, history, literature, music and theater

Spring:

Credits: 16

Class Standing: Freshmen - Senior; 33% of the seats are reserved for freshmenFreshmen - Senior

Offered During: Day
Description

This program will explore the folklore of the Slavic and Celtic peoples from epic times to the present in a cross-cultural study of two of Eurasia's oldest ethnic groups. Both groups are dispersed: the Slavic regions across eastern and southeastern Europe and into Eurasia, and the Celtic regions across the islands and peninsulas of the West. Both are renowned for their abundant folklore traditions, which have deep roots in a remote past and have served as a valuable source of inspiration for writers, composers and dramatists from the 19th century through the present. What characteristics do both traditions share? What distinguishes the two cultural traditions? What essential historical, linguistic and spiritual elements permeate the hearts and minds of local people in these regions? What do their folklore practices reveal?

We begin the quarter with regional epic narratives and explore the histories and belief systems of the two regions. We follow this foundational work with an exploration of folklore practices (customs, rituals, beliefs), examine 19th-century cultural nationalist movements in music and literature, and conclude with how it all plays out in contemporary life, both rural and urban. This program may serve as a springboard for further study of the Celtic and Slavic peoples, of folklore, and of the material elements of culture.

Each week includes lectures, films, seminars, and possible workshops, collaborative presentations, and guest performers or presenters. Students will be expected to write short essays, as requested, and to complete a significant essay at the end of the quarter that examines the role, use and appropriation of folklore materials in a particular Slavic or Celtic region.

CELTO-SLAVIC SIMILARITIES

Combined analysis of languages, historical sources, burial types, architecture and religion
reveals that a part of the Gauls called also Celts were in fact a Western Slavic branch consisting

of different tribes who inhabitedthe lands of ancient France, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, etc. These people were responsible for the spread of iron inCentral andWesternEurope and were also the ones to whomthe ethnonym Celts was applied for the first time. Unless other
ancient testimonies or new archaeological discoveries appear, it should be admitted that Slavic
tribes inhabited not only Eastern, but also Central andWesternEurope in the deep antiquity
and were strong, highly developed people, who influenced many others. Novel evidence of
Slavic presence in Western Europe and British Isles is presented in this paper.

Who could deny this statement?

Well, anyone who knows that Germans voted in Hitler, who proceded to be the most damaging possible leader they could ever have voted for. And I mean for Germans. Or did they genetically suddenly get much smarter in the evolutionarily miniscule last 75 years or so? Is it the influx of turkish immigrants that have upped their IQ?

Re: Germans are most intelligent people in the world
you germans are real jokers,

True.
You post some really interesting and -er-intelligent stuff.
Have you got any more information on the Veneti that you could post?

here is a list of european toponyms most probably connected with the name of the veneti.
the list is much too long to post here, I suppose
[link to www.veneti.info]

Great posts and thank you!

Thanks and thanks for mentioning.
I haven't realized how much research has been done on that field in the recent years, untill you mentioned it and i looked it up in google. There is even a celto slavic study in washington. Here: (The link bellow is very interesting if you are into celto slavic comparative linguistics!)
