SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A series of storms more powerful than the "big one" earthquake and more damaging than Hurricane Katrina could hit California in our lifetime, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

"I think Californians should be worried about this," USGS Director Marcia McNutt said.
