Global food chain stretched to the limit

[link to www.msnbc.msn.com]

Soaring prices spark fears of social unrest in developing world

- poor harvests in Canada, Russia and Ukraine
- hot, dry weather in South America has cut production in Argentina, a major soybean exporter
- ooding in Australia wiped out much of that country's wheat crop
- Higher oil prices are also pushing up the cost of food

perhaps but have hope, if people know now those who can grow, may do more and do it faster

if the pull any rationing on us, it will most likely be the last straw for those in the govt towards the people

you can tell it this downward spiral is being done on purpose as there just cannot be so many idiots in every govt, which are they going to choose as their title

idiots or murderers (maybe both)

Aren't farmers paid NOT to grow food?
I don't see how with the amount of farm land on the planet we can have a real food shortage.
Now, a deliberate food shortage is a different thing.

It will be dark times people. The food will be scarce and what will be available will be expensive. To top it all off the US dollar will collapse a few weeks at best after the Euro.

The US dollar will be devalued to anywhere from 50% to 70%. And about growing a garden, look up Codex Alimentarius that is a United Nations Treaty and especially check out bills HR 875 & S 425 for new regulations on home gardening. [link to educate-yourself.org]

Farmers are being paid to grow corn for ethanol so less farmland to grow food and after the year of floods and fires around the world, there will most definitely be a food shortage. Add to that China driving up the price of oil equals we are fuckt. Stock up now, you can see the evidence of this at your local supermarket, prices are already going up on basic everyday items and will continue to rise.

Agreed. I remember when I lived in MN to go to school, I got my first lesson agricultural economics; it is insane! We pay farmers NOT to grow food, to only grow so much food etc. Then there are the farmers who are getting money from the government to grow, but it is only enough so when they grow it and sell it they are barely-if even breaking even! Just research Agri Econ of the US and you will be like WOW! REALLY!It is just shocking!

Rev 6:1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
Rev 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
Rev 6:3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
Rev 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
Rev 6:5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
Rev 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

Rev 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
Rev 6:11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1231988

"The third major source of demand growth is the use of crops to produce fuel for cars. In the United States, which harvested 416 million tons of grain in 2009, 119 million tons went to ethanol distilleries to produce fuel for cars. That's enough to feed 350 million people for a year. The massive U.S. investment in ethanol distilleries sets the stage for direct competition between cars and people for the world grain harvest.

In Europe, where much of the auto fleet runs on diesel fuel, there is growing demand for plant-based diesel oil, principally from rapeseed and palm oil. This demand for oil-bearing crops is not only reducing the land available to produce food crops in Europe, it is also driving the clearing of rainforests in Indonesia and Malaysia for palm oil plantations."

In UK farmers are paid not to grow crops. THis is a fact. Idea is too kep prices stable.
Now, you'd think if the govenment in UK or Europe were really concerned about food shortages then they would have asked farmers in UK to start growing. But not a thing.

Either they want shortages to be there or there is nothing to worry about regarding Europe and they do not forsee any shortages
