I think north is the safest place. Many survivalist groups have relocated to the upper peninsula of Michigan. I personally would consider north central Iowa. The elevation is above 1,000ft, and there is a lot of open land. Some parts are hilly, not flat, which opens the options for shelter. If the predictions about the great lakes being connected with a great fissure to the gulf comes true, north central Iowa is in the safe zone.
