Re: More Bird Deaths Yankton Sees Bird Kill-Off
not sure if its worth mentioning hence why I dont start my own thread but I been noticing something here too that I dont normally see.. while I wouldnt call myself a bird watcher I do quite admire nature

recently the indian miner birds around here, who are normally a pretty damn smart opportunistic species breeding in the thousands if you let them have been a little... off

ive seen atleast 5 of them flattened on the roads recently in my area.. I wondered why I seen so many of them they're usually quick to react.. so I started noticing more and payed attention

what im seeing is repeatedly week after week mother birds taking out their 2-3 chicks of the nest well before they're ready to fly.. these young birds are roughly half the size of an adult and the wings seem to do very little at all

while the parents nervously look on at the hopping and skipping bird wondering around gardens, roads.. gutters for days at a time until they're either squished.. eaten by a cat.. picked up as a pet (which then die) or generally go missing

It could be that im just noticing now.. but I find it unusual.. its been happening to more than a few nests recently in my small area

Here is the "official" reason for the bird death.

Wow. Yankton is only an hour away from me.

In which direction, may I ask? I am only an hour away as well.

hf

Well, I guess it's an hour and a half away. When I was living in North Dakota I took Yankton to Sioux City and then headed south towards home.

I live about a half hour to 45 minutes south of Sioux City (in Nebraska).

So much for the vet saying there was nothing wrong with them. How can a poisoned bird look normal? I wouldn't want to use that vet!

sweet of the USDA to look out for our health by poisoning the poor birds.

The USDA used a poison called DRC 1399 at a feedlot 10 miles south of Yankton, never expecting the birds to get so far before they died. [link to www.ksfy.com]

If it was south of Yankton, then it must have been done in Nebraska.
