How long does a star stay supernova? I don't understand how this could even be brighter than a full moon?

It certainly won't look anything like the twin systems of Tatooine or the rendition of our binary system in 2010: The year we make Contact. Betelgeuse is NOT in our system, so the warmth we receive, if any, would be negligible and I would think the light would be similar.

Betelguese is almost 500 light years from here.
