Quoting: Anonymous Coward 576059Thanks -- I'll have to look into those areas. They would make for more than a weekend trip however. |

I would not have thought so, but maybe there is... According to the GPAA, though, it's mostly in Monroe and Polk counties. |

I've heard "stories" of gold in Rutherford (flower gold and 3 oz. nugget) and Wilson Counties (wire gold). Not sure how reliable those are nor the exact locations.

If you make a trip to Coker Creek expect to bust your ass! The place is like the surface of an Asteroid the bed rock sticks up ever where and has slick slim on it. I found some gold just not enough for the trouble. On the south end it's hard to find anything to pan and on the north by Doc Rogers it's been over worked. I did find a stream in North Ga back in 1989 that had gold flake in it out the ass. I run across the stream doing some training in the Army. It had so much gold in it I thought it must be fake. Was just a little feeder not over 100 yards by 10ft and only 12" or so deep. If nobody has found it I bet you could get pounds of gold out of it. I got some maps right now and been trying to figure out where it was. We where dropped in by Helicopters so I never knew the exact location and didn't put any effort into at the time to find out. I was young and had other things on my to do list and back then gold wasn't worth that much. |
