Actually its not too far from the truth. Under-Ocean displacement from even a small-moderate quake has the potential to cause a Tsunami if enough lateral force is created in a under-ocean landslip or rockfall.
Just like the topography at Thingvillier in Iceland, the Atlantic Rift is shielded by cliffs either side of the continental plates inbetween the boundary. A quake in the right spot can easily cause a large segment of these cliffs to collapse, and the resulting displacement be converted into kinetic energy which doesn't dissipate until the Wave reaches the shoreline. Depending on the lateral motion, either the US or Europe.

A similar thing happened millions of years ago off the coast of Norway, although caused by a under-ocean sandbank slipping than a fault rupture. This in-turn struck the East Coast of Scotland and England as a 20-30ft wave.
