Quoting: mandle/honikerLet me clarify a few things. 1) This plant is a plasma fractionation plant. It's not whole blood in the tanks, it's blood plasma that people have donated at facilities all across the country. People are paid to donate their plasma and there are regular donors 2) "Medical Supply" company is technically correct since Baxter does make medical supplies (IV bags, pumps, etc.)... just not at this particular plant. 3) This particular plant makes injectable "therapeutics" isolated from human blood protein, not drugs. For example they isolate clotting proteins from plasma and make them into an injectable for hemophilics. 4) Ethanol is used in the process of making these injectables Don't ask me how i know this It's totally wrong to be pooling that amount of blood, plasma, whatever! It's insanse! It's courting disaster! It's like your single McDonald's burger being created from thousands of cow carcasses thrown into a big chopper and processed together. Which is also done! LOL why is it wrong? They've been doing it for 60 years at that same location. And yes, McDonald's hamburgers are made from cows... retired dairy cows, to be exact... don't ask me how I know that either I'll tell you why it's wrong. There's all kinds of cooties in people's blood. Stuff known and UNKNOWN, and it's impossible to test for them all, one it would be prohibitively expensive and two the tests haven't all been developed. The testing that is done is just as stupid as how water is tested, all kinds of shit in water, we'll check for these 14 known possible contaminants. MAYBE. So you'll just dump it all in the 6,000 gallon pot, huh? The factor VIII fiasco was a result of Big Pharma not wanting to cough up something like $7 to do the HIV test on the donor's plasma. That was greed and Depop: The Practice Exercise. Industrial-size pharma, -farming, industrial-size anything, it's a nightmare. |

But considering the millions of liters of this stuff that's produced and used worldwide, it's surprisingly safe thanks to: Solvent/detergent rinsing, nanofiltration and pasteurization. Also many synthetic (non-human origin) versions are in use today. This crap really only goes to the third world anymore. |

The only reason there was any noise at all about that contaminated blood was because a huge number of hemophiliacs pursued the case in court. What other blood derivative products were marketed from the same blood that contaminated Factor VIII came from? How many other people other people got exposed? |

They are the same cows that you buy your meat from it's just that it's got 50-85% fat & the rest is your normal meat off the same cow you pay for in your stores. I know this for a fact as I have made Macca's patties & packed the meat for both. |
