Best handgun in $250-350 range.
Hola Peeps. I'm going shopping for a new handgun or two. I say two because...well...I have G.A.S....Gun Acquisition Syndrome. I'm looking for a "chick friendly" handgun and your basic Utility Hand Gun. I'm not set on models, features, caliber, etc. I was considering a smaller caliber for the chick friendly gun; something that can fit in a purse, etc.

For my gun, I'd prefer more stopping power and something that will fit my hand. I have larger than average hands (but not huge hands. More like long fingers.)
:)

Ideas? Models and basic pricing info is helpful!

Pre-requisites: One and only...It has to be NEW.

Junk
Junk

Get a .357 revolver....you can shoot .38 through it and it won't be too brutal on you...and if you ever need a lot more stopping power?...the .357 mag is there...

I prefer a pistol (Semi-auto) myself...but in that price range?...you're going to have to get real lucky on a used decent one...and junk semi-autos are real bad news...a lot can and will go wrong...stick with a revolver in that price range...that's my story and I'm sticking to it....

Norinco 1911 chrome lined barrel.

Don't matter what the price of your sidearm is if you can't hit what you're shooting at.

My Norinco's have less kick for follow up shots than any of my other more expensive 1911's like S and W, Para, Kimber or Sigs.

I can shoot tighter groups with my Norinco than with any of the above mentioned.

Cheap to buy not cheaply made.

Very reliable.

Re: Best handgun in $250-350 range.
Thanks for the replies so far. It'll take me a little while to look up the models, etc.

I'm not AGAINST used, but with used it's a little more of a 'luck' thing. You gotta FIND one, and evaluate it's past and current condition.

I have looked at the S&W Sigma series, which comes in around $300 new. It has decent reviews. Thoughts?

I've looked into the Hi-point stuff, even with the mixed reviews and such. It just doesn't "work" for me.

Keep in mind I'm looking for two guns. One is for me (somewhat large handed male) and one for a chick. I'm not necessarily looking for a 'chick gun', but her smaller hands and stature is a consideration when handling the gun.

My gf recently held my fathers S&W SW40VE (4" barrel I think)and it just seemed too 'big' for her, hence me looking for a second gun she may be able to handle better.

Thanks for the advice, please feel free to keep linking!

Edit: just confirmed my father's .40 is a 4" barrel. doh!

Looking at the Bersa now. Good reviews and price is in my range. Would that qualify as a gun a woman with small hands can use or a guy wth larger hands? The pics and reviews I've seen so far don't give much perspective on that.

I'm not an ammo reloader. Are the ACP rounds available over the counter somewhere? Honestly, I've never seen them. I've also never looked. Educate me! :)

 Quoting: PARANOID.

Yeah I had my wife fire my .45 Double Eagle as well...she was pretty much an ex-hippie chick when I met her...she has since been influenced by my sinister powerz...

So she says..."Well since you keep a loaded gun in the house, I should know how to fire one"...so I say...ok we'll go to the range and I'll teach you on the 9mm...cause it's not near as strong etc etc...she says, "No if that other one is the one that's going to be loaded, I should fire that one."...so I say ooookay then....

So...she never fired a handgun in her life...I teach her how an auto works...the bullets in the mag...racking the slide to put one in the pipe....how the slide travels back etc etc...all that before we go so she has the operation aspects down fine....

So we go to an indoor range...

I fire a mag through first so she can get the feel of the .45 firing etc...silloette target maybe 15 feet away...cause I explain you aren't going to be pickin off bad guys like rambo...it'll be this close if it ever happens...she says, "Ok I got it"...

So I load a mag...chamber empty...and Ok all yours...

She racks the freakin slide and buries 4 rounds center mass all kill shots...and damn fast too for a first timer...she says, "Well I didn't hit the bullseye, not so good I guess"...the next to me says...

"You freakin killed that target 4 times, lol, all in the black"...she says..."Oh so the WHOLE black is ok?"....lol...Yeah honey...the whole black is ok...

Still a bit of overkill for her I think....but then again...overkill is not always a bad thing when your life may depend on it...

Sigma's are shit. If you place the safety on and pull the trigger, you will see the left side of the plastic frame rise. If that doesn't scare you...the price alone for a semi auto should.

ACP just means "Automatic Colt Pistol"...it's an old designator...yes they are availible..it just means an auto loading .45 round vs say a .45 long colt which is a rimmed cartriage made for a revolver.
