Re: Is Horizon Organic really organic milk?
Absoulutely not, Horizon is owned by Dean Foods, of Jimmy Dean Sausage Fame, the animals are fed in fed lots on GMO grain, corn etc..

President Bush, lowered Organic standards so creeps like this company could sell their products, that could not meet the old standards as Organic, and make a bundle...

Isn't soy engineered with bug repellent these days?

Re: Is Horizon Organic really organic milk?
True "organic" milk is actually illegal in the United States

This is because back in the 1920's they got tired of wave after wave of lethal diarrhea sweeping through children every few years.

So all milk is required , by law , to be processed before being sold to the public.

Now , if you're looking for milk that produced by cows who aren't fed hormones ...you'll have to do a lot of research to find that.

It depends on the state! In Pennsylvania for example you can still get raw milk.

Read the rules on what can be classified as "organic". Then, study up on what homogenized. Then, learn what pasteurization is,the various levels of pasteurization, and what a product goes through to become pasteurized.

I will check out what other brands my local supermarkets sell.

The taste problem with Horizon is the unnecessary ultra-pasteurization, which turns it into white, filthy, sugar water. Either use the local stuff in Whole Foods or join a daily co-op for fresh raw milk.

And I mean right out of the milking bucket. To get any fresher you would literally have to be sucking on the cows tits. Most of you, unless you are diary farmers and/or have hand milked a real cow have no clue what fresh raw milk really is, an how processed it gets even right at the dairy. I even remember hand cranking the cream separator for the course of several milk cans of milk every morning and evening over the course of several summers, way way back in the mid 1950s.

I've never had a problem with it either.

When I started going to mostly organic food milk was a huge issue for me, I used to drink at least 3 to 5 glasses a day, when I started alternating soy milk and organic milk I almost entirely lost my craving for milk, in fact my cravings for all dairy products reduced significantly - I actually think I was addicted to the hormones and steroids not the dairy product(s).

I don't know if its perfectly organic, but I think the Horizon products are reduced enough to make a difference..

And ps.. I am hormone sensitive - can't take the pill because it increases my blood pressure a TON. My blood pressure has always been on the high side since having my kids, but, when I switched to all organic dairy.. wala.. my pressure is now in the perfectly normal range.. I'm convinced it's was the amount of hormones in those products ....

Re: Is Horizon Organic really organic milk?
all milk is essentially processed in this fashion, the fat gets separated, then the liquid part is dried to get the whey solids, then the whey is mixed with water and cream according to its specified milkfat content

milk is an industrial process of manufacture

Re: Is Horizon Organic really organic milk?
I'm really glad to see this thread so I can let people know what happened to me regarding Horizon Organic milk. I had been buying it assuming it would be healthier, and I got a batch that tasted like gasoline! I spit it out and it left a horrible taste in my mouth and I had to keep spitting for a few hours. I looked it up on the net and found out that some milk is contaminated with solvents, and Horizon Organic was one of them. It's not that way all the time but it happens when they don't rinse the tanks thoroughly. Anyway after that I decided to never buy it again.

soymilk is unfit for human consumption, as are most soy products unfit for human consumption, being that the soybean is highly indigestible, even for ruminant animals such as cows, which is why "first run" cattle manure is used to make livestock feed, because so much of the soy protein remains undigested the first time through

only fermented soy products should ever be consumed, those such as tofu, miso, or soy sauce, and then only sparingly or in moderation, but never as a staple of the diet

Re: Is Horizon Organic really organic milk?
there is no such thing as organic milk from a cow. That stuff is not made for humans. The only ones that should be drinking that is baby animals.

Now on the other hand there is soy, almond and rice "milk". Which taste incredibly delicious and don't have the cancer causing casein protein, but you have to make sure that they are certified organic, so they can be free of chemicals.

You can in TX, too, through a cow share program offered by private dairy farmers. Several of the dairy farmers deliver to farmers' markets in Hou on the weekend.

Absolutely nothing like the taste of fresh raw milk and fresh cream...the cream is like candy. I do miss it!

Soymilk is toxic to the liver and renal system. All those products you ascribe too are expensive and loaded with added sugar. A cheap and healthy hydrating remedy can be made by blending watery rice with a bit of sugar and salt, or you can add things like fruit or vanilla or cinnamon.

Sorry, but you've been misinformed. Unfermented soy products are toxic to the body and should never be consumed. Your getting your information from industrial vegan sources, not legitimate sources of culinary wisdom. Asians consume only fermented soy products, and only then in moderation and not as a staple part of the diet.

The soy plant doesn't have udders, therefore there cannot be any such thing as soy "milk". All it is, is soy juice.

Due to what???

Filthy, infectious dairy conditions.

So....

To continue (and increase) the profit while degrading the product, they pasteurize. God forbid they run a clean operation! There are completely closed systems now that prevent such infections, but they won't tell you that.

Now they also all but kill the cows with growth hormones to super-produce. The big dairies can be as filthy as they so desire...and the fill the cows with chemicals...and do. They don't give a shit what you consume...just buy their product dammit. Oh, and don't even THINK about supporting their fresh milk competitors. They will gangsta fight to the end...and are.

A good read for all the politics behind this scam "The Milk Book". It's eye opening...and absolutely infuriating how much the dairy lobby pours money into shutting down raw milk farmers (for decade after decade). Fucking corrupt politicians....and their lackeys...every one of them.
