The moon finally rose in the SF Bay Area and it is beautiful! It's dark across the top as you all observed and 51% of me thinks that it looks normal, lol.

No, saying that the moon is doing something that it hasn't been doing for the last 4.5 billion years is not just "making an observation". Going out and looking at the position of the moon is making an observation.

Motivated by the stupendous ignorance of this thread, I just now downloaded and installed a program called Stellarium and it shows the moon's line of termination tilted almost 90 degrees here in Oregon. I can't see the sky because of cloud cover but this happens every year in exactly the same way. As the video I linked noted, the moon appears completely "upside down" in the Southern Hemisphere compared to how it looks to us in the Northern Hemisphere. If you were an ant on a basketball looking up at a baseball a half mile away... where you are on the basketball would completely change how the baseball appeared to you.

There's also Google Sky for anyone who has the Google Earth software.

What are you talking about?? There have been a lot of EQs and Tsunamis all over the planet and hundreds of thousands of people died. A little tilt on Earth's axis is not enough to cause a mass extinction but does a LOT of damages.

Just made this quick for another thread talking about the same thing. My main purpose was to show why all the moon phase images are verticle.



It depends on your perspective. If you wanted to see a moon phase image in relation to your position the moon phase image would have to know your longitude/latitude on the earth to correctly orientate the moon to your position.

ALL phases of the moon's waxing and waning are VERTICAL (left to right and vice versa), not HORIZONTAL (top to bottom.)

I guess this was made before the advent of "cheap digital cameras" when astronomers "auto-corrected" the tilt.
