Water now boils at 176 degrees! Doom! | |
| BRIEF AND TO THE POINT User ID: 1220677 01/25/2011 08:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was making dinner and thought of this thread. I was making peas so figured what the hey. I have a Hamilton Beach thermometer. It started boiling at about 195 degrees. Then I moved the thermometer over to the part the was boiling and it went up to about 203 degrees. I'd have to do it again, but it is weird to watch it happen. I am 680 feet elevation in Ohio. Quoting: Mother MaryThe thermometer will have to touch the bottom of the pot, but to get a true reading of the boiling point, a body of water should be heated in an oven so as to be 100% accurate...and the thermometer must be completely submerged for the duration... Thank you! I also have digital thermometer made for the oven. Which one to use? Figure maybe tomorrow I could be a boiltard for the day just to see if anything happens. Fun experiment anyways. BOTH...The answer to "which one to use" is always both or all of the above... Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things. | BRIEF AND TO THE POINT User ID: 1220677 01/25/2011 08:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Looks like someone missed the Op's point !!!! The point is the boiling point of water and not boiling an egg you Tard!!! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 729560Oh yea....back to the point....I just boiled water in a kettle and checked the boiling point with a thermocouple. Almost exactly 100 C (212 F).... at 800 Ft above sea level. The earth atmospheric pressure has dropped by %6. It is caused by a decreasing magnetosphere. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1064613Boil some water. It now boils at 176 degrees. Major doom. Just boiled an egg to test it out. Tasty but quick. Boiling itself is not what cooks the egg, it's the heat...you can raise the boiling point by adding salt...also every pound of pressure added increases the boiling point by three degrees... No, I understood OP to say the boiling point has lowered and that his egg cooked quicker...That's what he said, but boiling water doesn't always equate to hot water... I don't think the equipment is the problem sadly..... Yes but paid good money for poor quality! George.. you just changed my quote.....that's a bad thing George.. My compass is not only off 30 degrees but so is my boil temp! Grab a pan! Garb a compass! Report back here! Forgot to add...as I was testing the boil temp I noticed the sun was rising and shining in my west window! No suprise because last night while checking to see how far off my compass was the moon was upside down! ![]() ![]() |
