CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A conference organized by a group known for white supremacist, anti-immigrant rhetoric is drawing new protests in Charlotte.

The Charlotte Observer reports a militant Jewish group, along with liberal and anarchist organizations, are planning protests of the American Renaissance conference scheduled for Feb. 4-6.

The Jewish Defense Organization says it's called 40 hotels in the Charlotte area threatening a boycott if they host the conference. Conference organizers say they'll only announce the venue at the last minute, for security reasons.

The Durham-based Southern Anti-Racism Network expects people from as far away as Alabama to attend a Feb. 5 protest of the conference.

American Renaissance editor Jared Taylor says the groups are trying to stifle controversial views.
