The lake that glows in the dark: Eerie phenomenon that turned waters (and midnight swimmers) luminous blue

Swimming is supposed to give you a healthy glow, but these swimmers weren't quite sure what was going on when they took a late-night dip and turned a fluorescent shade of blue.
'It was like we were playing with radioactive paint,' said photographer Phil Hart who snapped the bizarre sight as his friends emerged from a lake in the dark of night.
The light is created by a chemical reaction called bioluminescence, which happens when a naturally-occuring micro-organism in the water is disturbed.

Wow, thanks!
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

That happened to us at the beach one night except we went bright green - we were stoned at the time - so it was an amazingly, freaky experience. We were romping around in for ages.

In fact I remember telling everyone on GLP about it - that was a few years ago now.

Its true - its not like paint - its tiny wee organisms flowing off them as the water runs off them. I have seen this with my own eyes and I can't be bothered making shit like this up.

I've seen this before in the ocean, but never in blue. I've never heard of this in a lake.

A very interesting find ...

Growing up on the gulf, this was a benefit of swimming at night-beautiful. Only saw it in the water, when you moved or intentionally waved your hands, underwater.

Getting out with it all over you, is visible under a black light.

Re: Eerie phenomenon that turned waters (and midnight swimmers) luminous blue
It's fairly common in warm waters , like the Indian Ocean

There's effects that happen so fast and faint you can't catch it with a camera

When you take a step and see a ring of light race out with the ripple

See small fish outlined by the light ,they disappear when they stop moving , then reappear as they dart to a new location.

The wakes of large ships , lit up so brightly you can see them from miles away.

The first time you experience it , there's a feeling of awe and wonder ...

...until some nerd starts explaining whats happening.

Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.
