If Mubarak tries to enforce his "new" government with the use of violence and terror against his own people, this situation could explode!!

The US gov has military and corporate "interests" in keeping Mubarak in power. Would the US gov send military "support" to Mubarak? (I hope that could not happen...omg.)

Will our young men and women in the military be willing to fight against and kill civilians who are so obviously fighting for their own freedom?

If anyone reading this in the military now, would you obey orders to go to Egypt and kill these people??

prior military here and I can say this. Once your done with boot camp you are completely brainwashed and follow orders without question.

That was not the case in tunis..and many soldiers today stod on the protestors side and even shot the police that was shooting civilians

Oh I know muha. I was just commenting on US military training, which I thought the poster was asking about. In the US military, especially marines, orders are followed....no questions asked. Trust me on that one.

 Quoting: Marketslave

it's funny you brought that up because I was thinking about that today. I personally could not, however, when Civil War broke out in the US, it did turn brother against brother and they did fight one another.

Mubarak's words mean very little to those people out in the streets...

he's had a long time to address their concerns, and he's failed...

most of the news people during the day were saying the protesters welcomed the military intervention as opposed to Mubarak's police busting their heads!!!

According to Dutch news the Egyptian army started clearing a certain plaza in Cairo, I don't know the English translation but I believe it's Tahrir Square (again I am not sure). Demonstrators are fleeing.

Not completely true. The units around Beijing didn't want to shoot at the protestors at Tiananmen Square and socialized with the students. The gov. had to transport units from northern provinces - back then China was on the brink of collapse.

Technically it would require U.N. action, which could then lead to intervention. Though.. One could argue the uni-lateral action in Iraq, but generally, there has to be some type of consensus at the U.N. before intervention.
